We walked in at about 6:00 p.m., thinking we may need a reservation and went to the bar to have a drink. I walked to the mens room and noticed many open tables. I noticed so many open tables that I decided to count on my way back to the bar. 7 tables out of 40 were seated and that did not include two whole areas that looked like they were accomodating large parties. I had inquired about a table on my way to the mens room and as I made my way back to the bar (which was empty when we arrived) I was told they could seat us at 8:45, almost 3 hours later. I was told we could order the full menu from the bar and so we decided to eat in the bar. We are not from out of town, in fact we live in Brentwood on Concord road. I had read many reviews about F. Scott's Restaurant and Jazz Bar, thinking it may be a good place to go on an anniversary or special occasion. Our sights were set high.
We started with the lobster and jalapeno waffle and a bowl of the soup of the day. The soup had good flavor but the waffle was not hot and truely didn't merit my order or the chef's effort. We were being served by two bar tenders, one of which informed us he has truely traveled the country dishing up what he considered were some incredible food created by great chef's that of course anyone should die for. We had been passed up by the first bartender and now were being cared for by our second. I guess assumptions were made with our first drink order that we did not require the wine list, so it was not brought until I requested the offering. I ordered the filet (medium) and my fiance' ordered the chicken after a robust reccommendation. The filet had an eighth on an inch of char on the outside and was rare in the middle. I ordered medium so my fiance' would try a bite, but I prefer medium rare. It was definately medium rare except for the leftover grill samplings inbedded in the eighth inch char and ash. The spinach and kale were tasty, as tasty as kale can be and the pome frits were very good. The chicken was tasteless and the crispy feta stuffed snow peas were cold and dripping with grease. This left me with one conclusion: dessert was going to make everything perfect: Coconut cake with cream cheese frosting and sorghum ice cream. I guess I was expecting the cake to taste like my grandmothers, which it didn't and the sorghum and caraway seed ice cream was an attempt at being creative. I liked it, the love of my life did not. It was ice cream, how wrong could it really be? I guess the reason that I am documenting this was the service. After drinks, and two appetizers, two entre's and two dessert I went back to the men's room and saw TEN empty tables. I can certainly understand why a table for two would have been so hard to come by. To make matters worse, I had to flag down the bartender every time we needed something, however the two young males fawning over each other that ordered french fries and water and the two older males fawning on each other on our right were regularly interrupted by the "wait staff" as if they wanted to be included in their conversations. I will end saying the valet staff did an incredible job. $5.00 on the way in and $5.00 on the way out. The valet did better than our wait staff, however there was more effort shown.
Out of towners: have at it. I won't be back and I paid in cash. No record, no recourse and glad I can stop wondering. Highly, Highly dissappointed.

Went on a night that featured a great jazz duo. Steak was undercooked, but the service was outstanding. Overall, I would gladly return for the atmosphere, but would order differently.

a classic fine dining destination with a masterfully crafted menu dependant on locally sourced ingedients. the thick wine list binder is impressive. the white table service is not unwelcomingly stuffy. live jazz in the bar fills the restaurant's out-dated decor.
