Fat Sam's Sub Station, Birmingham, Alabama, Fast Food Restaurant Details

Fat Sam's has a great reputation, yet it was difficult to see it. I went into the restaurant and there was immediately poor service, it took a while for someone to get my order. The sandwich itself was something out of a normal Subway, and for a higher price. The cleanliness of the place does not help either. Overall, wont be coming back.

Food:

Dirty, dirty restaurant. Meat in the philly tasted old. This place needs a serious inspection by the FDA. Felt like I needed a shower after eating here. Fries were greasy and luke-warm. I really wanted to give this place a better rating, but sorry. Clean your restaurant and start getting fresh ingredients! The bars on the windows are an omen!

Here's an old school arcade game with Ms. Pacman and Frogger to play while you wait. Sandwiches are made when you come in. They're pretty good!

Had a chance to check out Fat Sam's today since the reviews were so positive. However, I must say I was totally disappointed. It's so hard to find a good philly cheesesteack in Birmingham and I really thought I had found the perfect spot. But I must say this was not what I expected at all. I ordered a philly cheesesteak, fries, and a drink. The meat tasted kind of leftover and lacked flavor. It needed something, not sure what, (KEY WORD-SEASONING). The fries were decent, hand-cut and seasoned, a little floppy though. The service is slow and the place needed updating and a good cleaning. I really wanted to give Sam's a good rating, but I didn't enjoy this meal at all. Probably won't be back.

Fat Sam's is a hole in the wall sandwich shop. Sam has a larger than life personality and is always good to chat with. Also the food is delicious. I've driven 4 hours to get one of his kitchen sink sandwiches in the past
