Down home good eats and WOW were they friendly the first time I went and every time since. You may think I am crazy but I had to order the SOS (chipped beef on toast) and it tasted just like when I was in the marines 44 years ago and I liked it then and love it at Finch's.

This Raleigh institution is usually just open for breakfast and lunch and it's usually jammed! Look for Finch's off of Peace Blvd and across from Cap Blvd and you'll notice the odd and worn parking lot filled with vehicles. Black front face with retro red letters, Finch's says throw-back right from the start.

Inside it's a well-worn diner feel complete with fake wood, basement paneling. The worn stools up front at the counter is a fun place to grab a meal and all the waitresses are mature and experienced! So expect a honey or sugar when you get served, it's all good. Finch's shines if you're up for a cheap breakfast of eggs, home-fries and sausage, nothing fancy-shmancy here. And that's perfect on some mornings which half of Raleigh seems to agree with.

So enjoy your old-school meals at Finch's, they've been doing something right for all these decades, just don't set your sights too high. Focus a basic and hearty, diner eats and you'll be good to go.

I LOVE FINCH'S. It's not fancy, but the food is just plain good, and cheap. If you're looking for classy ambiance, this isn't your cuppa tea, but nearly every cop and politician in downtown Raleigh eat there weekly, sometimes daily, and that says something GOOD about Finch's.

I went to Finch's for the first time last Sunday. It was great! I'm from a small town in eastern NC, where my mother cooked the best breakfast. The breakfast I got from Finch's rivaled my mother's. Now the restaurant is dated and a like a hole in the wall, but the amount of patrons proved that the ambiance was not a qualification for good food. This place was packed. From the church goers ready to eat to the folk that rolled out of bed and wanted something to stick to the ribs. The cook was very nice as well. He noticed my husband had left the table with my son for a long period of time and asked if he could warm his food so that it would be good and hot when he returned. My family was so full and happy, and that's all that mattered.

We went to finches for the first time this morning for breakfast and loved it! Don't expect anything new or fancy. I love that it was like going back in time. You go in and sit where you please. I loved my never half empty cup of coffee and our food was very good. Don't expect anything fancy. I got french toast and home fries with cheese. The home fries weren't shredded they where cut up potatoes which is my favorite! The food came out within 5-10 mins of ordering. I highly sugest trying Finches and don;t let the outside scare you away!
