I've been living in the area since 1990. The Fish House opened in 1995 and I was looking forward to trying it. I did in 1996 for lunch. Today I went back for lunch to try it again after hearing people ( including my mother) talk about how good it was. My wife and me along with another couple that has a similar anniversary date will get together and try a different restaurant around town that we haven't been to. We haven't made it yet because of business scheduling issues between us. Business has been good.
Today's lunch was interesting. I was talking to the waitress about the soups. She recommended the "Fisherman's" soup. She asked if I liked calamari. I said I do. She kept going on as to how good the soup is and that she's not actually a soup person but she loves this one. So I ordered it. Before the soup came as she was making her rounds to other tables I asked, does the Fisherman's soup actually has fish in it? She said it does.
Well, it doesn't.
It has calamari, mussels, clams, two or three shrimp, onions tomatoes, cilantro and another type leaf seasoning. I let her know it's not what I expected. I went ahead and had some of the calamari and veggies that were in the broth. I mostly consumed the broth. It was good.
It was served in a nice large bowl steaming hot. But for $16.00, I would have expected a soup with some higher quality ingredients in it. Maybe some actual fish?
Earlier I mentioned my first visit in 1996 lunch. Similar experience.
I ordered the sandwich. Can't remember if it was grouper, snapper or dolphin on the menu that day. When it was served, I noticed a tiny piece of fish on a large bun. When I mentioned it to the waiter, the response wasn't good. I ate the fish and smoked fish dip, paid and left. I don't fault the waitress for pushing me on the soup, she's a good sales person.

Ya gotta hear hot jazz in a cool club when you least expect it-- Wed. nights

at Fish House. Heard an incredible group of musicians- Joe Yeargin, Brian Smith,

Mike Cohen, & Anthony Corrado. From someone who dislikes most jazz, I (we)

had a surprisingly fun, soothing , spicy, rockin' night and my eardrums stayed fine!

I am very surprised this place had so many good reviews on yelp....and here as well....We felt ripped off after eating there. We ordered a fillet of fish for $24.95 and got a small 8 oz little piece of fish that was not even cooked properly. We ordered another entre to go ( the beef fajitas $15.95) more peppers and onions than beef ( another rip off) . Not going to this place ever again and not recommending it. Maybe some of their other dishes are great but I will not ever go there again. Defenitely overrated. Folks need to go out to more places to get a real grip of what real good quality food is. This place takes the stinky award in more ways than one !!
