Fran's Filling Station, Charlotte, North Carolina Restaurant Details

Food:

Just awful. Had reservation put in back by kitchen. Had disinterested waiter and owner/manager who couldn't bother speaking to us even though she walked by us several times to speak with other customers. Went for the turkey told not available at night not what the on line menus says. Tried the deviled eggs and tater-tots neither were very good. I am at a loss for the 4 star reviews. Obviously this was either a bad night for Fran or other reviewers don't get out much.

Great fresh food. Locally owned and operated. Specials always tasty. We also have them cater events at our house. They do a great job. Fran is frequently at the shop which i think is a great sign. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Charlotte.

While visiting Charlotte we always try new places that are non-corporate, we despise the chain restaurants! We had heard good things about Fran's and gave it a go. The night started out on the wrong track; the 1st three beers my husband ordered had "blown" and the 1st two wine choices that I made were unavailable. Next we ordered Fran's salute to southern cooking with the appetzer that included biscuit, pimento cheese and a few other items; the biscuit definately is not southern Fran- too sweet and it fell apart into little pieces. Our service was poor to say the least; our server was very inattentive (took 20 minutes just to get a drink order when we 1st arrived) and the restaurant was not full. Finally, we received our meals ( 2 entrees were delivered 1st and my entree came 10 minutes later because the bread wasn't ready???). While my husband was eating another server/food buser was clearing the dished from a nearby table and he let a container of something fall off the dirty plate he was carrying onto the middle of my husband's plate. He said 'I'm so sorry" and walked off-that was that! My husband was offered no compensation or replacement by management (wonder if management was even present last Friday night, seems not)! All in all the food was good but that is only 1/3 of the dining experience; at these price points the entire experience should be much better! Our next visit to Charlotte will definately not include Fran's Filling Station; such a disappointment.

I haven't been to Fran's in awhile, and was so looking forward to my favorite menu item, Chicken salad sandwich #10. I modified it a bit, melt with havarti and bacon and normally its FABULOUS. Not so today. Not only was the chicken salad different , so were the sweet potato chips. They were awful!!! The sandwich was not good either. I am SO disappointed because Fran's isn't cheap and I could not eat that lunch. If you changed your recipe for chicken salad, that's a shame because it's terrible. The consistency was like a tuna salad. And the sweet potato chips, horrible! I doubt I will be back .
