My wife and I have enjoyed several times Frederick's since they opened. Many are the original staff, very professional, and have a passion for their job. The fusion of French-Asian is wonderful. The flavors are married together perfectly, with distinct accents. The spring rolls are incredible, we always order them. The seafood is always fresh, no doubt about it. We stopped in one night to grab a glass of wine, after trying out Torchey's, and ended up having a wonderful conversation with the general manager, Mauricio. We ordered some wonderful tapas and left two hours later. The place is not cheap, but it's a bargain if you have traveled, and appreciate fine dining. They are constantly evolving the design of the restaurant and we are always exited to see the changes.

This was not french... The meals were well prepared. And the chefs were high speed. they wre able to prepare some items we requested that were not on the menu. alot if seafood, good selection of fish. has an asian flair. $75.00 per person if yo have a couple glasses of wine.

It is hard to believe this is the sister to Frederick's Bistro (which is consistently very good). This restaurant is simply NOT good! The building smells musty. The food is good at best and mostly mediocre. Salads were the high point. Main courses of pasta with seafood and a pork chop were not special in any way. Add spotty service and overpriced wine and you have the makings of a less than delightful meal. Somehow they get good ratings but ???

One of my favorite eateries in San Antonio. We ordered the steak and lamb chops that were incredibly tasty and fresh. We had Goat Cheese and Brie appetizer, amazingly tasty and light. Our salad was very fresh with a zesty pesto sauce. The veggies were crisp, fresh, and delicious. The waitress was a delight. The ambiance is charming. The whole experience far met our expectations.

I am a frequent patron at all of the "nicer" restaurants in San Antonio. It's always nice to enjoy a great atmosphere and some wonderful food to celebrate any special occasion. My girlfriend took me to Frederick's for my birthday and our expectations were not met at all.

Upon arriving at the restaurant, I noticed that the location was very nice, parking was accessible, and the exterior looked quaint. However, upon stepping foot inside, we were both somewhat disappointed at the lack of "modern/contemporary" or even clean or comfortable decor. There are office ceiling tiles on the roof, random bottles of wine on sticky and dusty counter tops, and you could tell the restaurant hadn't been remodeled for years.

I'm wouldn't go so far as to say the place is a "dump" - but Silo, Acenar, Paloma Blanca, Meson, Boudros, Bohannan's, Aldo's (just to name a few) - if you're expecting an ambiance and atmosphere matching these "San Antonio MVPs", you will also be disappointed.

The wait staff - as another reviewer so eloquently described - was extremely "oafish", clumsy, lacking information on the dishes, and for an establishment that is "Zagat Rated" and considered a "fine dining establishment" - just not the proper fit to say the least. We also had to wait for a non-wait staff to bring us menus. This is unacceptable as far as I'm concerned.

At least the food would be the saving grace of our trip here right? Unfortunately, although prepared with attention to detail, the food was somewhat bland, and just nothing to rave about. Furthermore, the presentation was lacking, a simple white plate with no garnish, no "creative twist", no small side dish, just the "egg crusted fish" on top of some pureed potatoes. I'm certainly not saying the food was bad - but for $28, I'm afraid I was at least expecting a lot more in terms of flavor and taste. Even with the lacking presentation and atmosphere, if the food was stellar, the trip would have been a success. However, certainly not the case with our experience at Frederick's on this evening.

Finally - and it may be indicative of the general area - the patrons of this restaurant were EXCLUSIVELY 50 years of age or older. Personally, that's not a problem for me, but for those who are looking for a more "happening" or even "younger" crowd - this is certainly not going to be the place for you.

Overall, I expected high rated Zagat quality, I expected a courteous and extremely attentive waitstaff, I expected a somewhat enjoyable and contemporary atmosphere (certainly not ceiling tiles, steel frame chairs and old carpet), and in the end, and most importantly, I expected good tasting food.

I am sorry to say, Frederick's disappointed in ALL departments, and I think I would have had a more enjoyable all around meal at P.F. Changs - maybe even Chilli's.
