Fred's Mexican Cafe, San Diego, California Restaurant Details

Food:

Was visiting from Seattle for a conference. I went to a few mexican places in San Diego and this was definitely my favorite.

Great tacos! And great rice and bean sides. The drinks were nice too (I'd give the drinks a 3.5 rating though). But the food! Why can't they make tacos like this in Seattle! It was amazing...

Food:

Good Mexican food. Margaritas are ok. Definitely there are better and more Authentic Mexican places in San Diego but if you are in the area this one seems less touristy than others.

Don't know what happened - this place used to be the BEST and was a frequent for the date night. Wanted to come back (we now live in PHX) and try my favorite special burrito from them.

First - they no longer serve the lobster burrito (the whole reason we came). The burrito I did get, Cajun Shrimp, was just ok... nothing really special for how much it costs.

Second - this place seems to have turned into a all day bar. Don't get me wrong.. this is the Gas Lamp. But, they used to spiff-up for the lunch time crowd, lower the music, etc. Now they just mop up from the night before and continue. Not a place to bring the "family"

Will keep checking the menu online, and return only if the lobster burrito makes a comeback. But as of now, this place is just not what it used to be.

Food:

Waited for 30 minutes for a table. Then waited for just over an hour for food that never came. We were told our order would be up in 10 minutes three different times. After an hour we asked for our food were told 10 more minutes again and had to leave before they could produce our order.

Food:

I always get the buffalo chicken and cheeseburger tacos. Different but tasty. Cool locations and environment. Tacos Tuesday is always packed. I know the manager Lindsay and she is awesome. A little pricey for lunch didn't see any specials.
