Not only am I not vegetarian or vegan, I run a meat shop in my town and am a meat trader (yes that's a thing) by trade.

Looking for a downtown lunch spot with my siblings and without using an app, we stumbled upon Garden Café knowing nothing about it.

We loved our meals (BBQ "beef" sandwhich, Greek Lovers Pizza, hummus & spinach wrap, Mac & Cheese and kale smoothie.

But, we also loved the intimate atmosphere and great waitress. We definitely will be back there before we leave Wichita.

I'm not a vegan...pretty much a meat and potatoes guy, but I love flavorful food. This place has that in spades. I had a mushroom penne pasta dish that I ordered extra spicy. It was delicious. My sister, who is not the spice freak that I am, ordered the same dish but without the "heat" -- she loved it too.

My wife and daughter had the thanksgiving dinner -- the buffet -- and they too were very satisfied. The "turkey," which I also tried, was delicious and the mashed potatoes were very rich. How they do that without butter is a mystery (only because we didn't ask).

Bottom line: this place is a little hidden gem of Wichita, tucked inside the oldest commercial building in downtown. Don't think of it as a vegan restaurant...instead go there to have really good food that will stick to your ribs.
