An "oasis of civility", this Ravenswood New American wins acclaim for chef Chris Nugent's "high-end" multicourse tasting menus that impress with "innovative" preparations, "divine" flavors and "beautiful" presentation; the simple, intimate setting has an "elegant" vibe, and while it's pricey, a BYO policy (you can stop at its next-door shop) helps keep it "cheaper" than similar options.

As always a fantastic experience. The courses are well executed and are by far the best in the city. The passion of the chef and staff shows in every element. Best cheese course I have ever experienced and the whole dining session far exceeds any Michelin three star place I have been.

Excellent food.

The wine selection next door was great, but the waived corkage can quickly get offset by the pricing there, so do your math first.

The service was varied. All very friendly, but the delivery of each dish came with an explanation of what was on the plate. Some of the staff were natural and comfortable and enhanced the experience. Others were a little stilted and awkward which rather undermined the experience.

I am rating this restaurant as what it is meant to be, which is upscale. I am basing my views on having been to several similar restaurants to give you some background. I had the 9 course tasting menu.

Pros:

The chefs wife greeted us in the beginning and spoke to us at the end, which I feel is a nice touch. Food is good mostly, but there are some items that are excellent and some that to me shouldn't qualify at this higher level of dining.

Cons:

When I go to a place such as this I expect the whole experience to be exceptional. The staff spilled water on my table, then dropped used silverware on my foot later. Every pour of water resulted in a spill and the staff just seemed nervous and uncomfortable with what they were doing. Like another review on here I have to agree with the length of the dining experience which is very long for 9 portions that may take 2 minutes each to eat if you eat slow. If you don't mind this, then no problem. The overall decor of the place is just ok and for a place that makes you sit for 3+ hours for 9 courses, I must say those were some of the most uncomfortable chairs.

I would say this place is worth trying once, but I won't make a second visit. If they work on the service aspect, I will definitely give this place 4 stars.

Goosefoot offers a tasting menu with 9 courses and BYOB. The hostess and wait staff are very personable, and the atmosphere is civilized. The food contains seasonal ingredients and incorporates molecular gastronomy techniques, especially gels and flowers. All the courses were good, but some were lacking in overall flavor, with individual components not adding up. The scallop, salmon and soup courses were excellent. The cheese course had a lot going on, including fennel chips and explosive fig pellets. The garlic custard was curdled with minimal shrimp flavor and the duck confit in the risotto was totally lost. The peach dessert was overwhelmed by the strawberry flavor, but had a good biscuit. Nice finish with a tiny hot chocolate.
The menu changes monthly, and reservations must be made weeks in advance. A great destination dining spot.

A fancy place, but 100% worth it. The best thing to get is a 3 course dinner, as that is one of the best choices on the menu. I loved the chestnut soup it had a very smooth and smokey taste to it. Then the scottish salmon, which was wood plank smoked and done perfectly to that point that it arouses your taste buds into something you never knew was there. Then for desert I had the Blood Orange/Cassia/Kaffir Lime/Citrus which tasted amazing, I would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. Also apparently the owner was telling me on my way out that they only source local ingredients so it supports the local farming economy, plus it is much fresher that way.
