gracie's, nestled in the lobby corner of the classic hotel deluxe in southwest downtown portland (near artists rep. theatre and timbers' providence park), is quite the evening dinner find. excellent, ever rotating menu guaranteed to enchant the palette of even the most serious food geek. the driftwood room bar, next door, and gracie's, and the hotel itself, carry all the very classy ambience of 1940s hollywood elite. and quite the cultured well chosen wine list, as well as well-informed wait-staff to help steer you towards both your food & drink choices depending on what you have a craving for. pricey, yes, but worth every penny, especially to impress a business contact, a group, a family, or most importantly, a lovely date.

If it wasn't for the spectacular ambiance of the Hotel Deluxe I don't know if I would have rated it three stars. You walk in and you feel like you are transported to a different time. Hollywood in the 1940's takes center stage and I really enjoyed feeling like I was in a different place. Gracies is just up the stairs and to the left of the hotel lobby. It has the same ambiance as the hotel which is really pleasing to the eye and you feel like you are in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's.

I went there for brunch and while I did enjoy the fresh squeezed orange juice with my mimosa, that might have been the highlight of the food and drink that I consumed. I ordered a crab and shrimp eggs benedict. There were a lot of menu items that included a poached egg so I assumed that might be what they do well. I received my eggs benedict, and like I so love to do I cut right through the middle of the yolk so that it could run out and create that nice sauce that I so enjoy when I have poached eggs. The egg was totally overcooked, no run of the egg, just chalky yellow yolk. Three other people at my table ordered dishes with poached eggs and their eggs were all cooked the same as mine. To the side of my benedict was a pile of dark dark, verging on the edge of being burnt potatoes, the food sadly didn't measure up to the grander of the surroundings.

I so wanted to like this place. I think it has great potential- they take reservations for brunch, the atmosphere is spectacular and they go the extra mile with their fresh squeezed juice, but if you are going to put poached eggs on most of your breakfast items, please learn how to cook them correctly.

I went here to celebrate Mother's Day for my mom not too long ago. Wonderful, wonderful classy experience. It is on the expensive side, but the food is wonderful. The Mother's Day spread is buffet style and I don't like buffet style eating really, but they impressed me. You do want to make reservations but it isn't too horrific of a wait. Also, it's in a great little neighborhood too, so you'll want to do some walking. Definitely be wary of the prices though.

The good... excellent food, good service. quiet ambiance, high-end furnishings make for a gracious experience.

Not so good... on the expensive side

The Bad... $9.95 for internet access? Needed to check a site for my breakfast partner, but we both decided it could wait.

We live in the neighborhood and finally gave this place a chance for brunch. For a Sunday during a holiday weekend it was surprisingly not busy. Very unusual for the area, usually you have to wait 45 to an hour; anywhere.

The food was actually really good! All three of use liked our food. The staff was very friendly and nice. Not surprising since this place is in a fancy hotel.

The only problem was the price... It's really expensive, and I can see why locals like us avoid the place. My banana pancakes were $17. :-/

For the three of us, it came to $55 with only one person getting a drink. Probably not a place you'd eat at every week, but worth it for a nice brunch with mom.
