09/10/2011 4:39 amNovember 12th, 2010 - I love me some Mexican food. I always have, but I love it even more after becoming a vegetarian - it's one of the most cooperative ethnic foods available for us herbivores. There's this building in Lewiston that's been the home of several Mexican restaurants. The first was a chain that was overly priced for their prepackaged, frozen foods (I knew a chef, he told me all the gory details). The next place that came in always gave me stomach cramps and was rumored to have bugs. Needless to say - the building had some bad Mexican mojo going on. A new restaurant moved in to the space recently - Hacienda Del Patron - and I was excited as I had heard that the owners also owned Fajita Grill (probably the best Mexican food in the entire state, but an unfortunate 50 minutes away). Thrilled with the opportunity to eat quality Mexican food AND - WOW! - was it everything my little foodie heart could hope for. Every time I’ve gone now, not only has the food outstanding and authentic, the service was exemplary - for example, we asked for no meat in our enchiladas, and when our food came it had carne in it. We called our waitress over, but before we could even explain the problem, one of the chef's came physically running out of the kitchen with a new plate of food for us. And you gotta love a place where two people can literally eat their fill for under $20 bucks. That just doesn't happen anymore in this economy and it's appreciated. If you're in the area and you've got a hankering for Mexican food that won't make you feel gross or break the bank (on Sunday’s they have $5 Combo Plates – BOOYEAH!), I highly recommend this place. Besides - you get all the chips and salsa you can eat for free. Seriously. Does it get any better? |
