What can I say? The legendary ballroom which opened in 1906 that has transformed and grown into a part of the city itself. You are probably visiting the venue for a show or special event, but the gorgeous piece of architecture and culture is worth visiting in and of itself.

Great venue for an intimate concert! Tim McGraw performed here recently and jumped between stages. I was in a box but I had I been in the crowd, I would have collapsed from excitement.

I went there February 17th,2015 to see Pierce The Veil and Sleeping With Sirens for The World Tour and I was highly disappointed with the staff. First off, my friends and I along with another group of people we met there, were kicked out of line around 8 in the morning. They said we weren't allowed to line up until 4, I understand that but the way they addressed us was highly disrespectful. They threatened to call the cops if we didn't leave the line and continued to talk to us with an attitude. So of course we left, considering the weather (it was snowing and it was cold) we stood in the Dunkin Donuts across the street. As the time passed, we noticed way more people get on line before 4, and weren't kicked out of line like we were. I found that unfair, because they weren't threatened with the cops like we were. After the concert, the staff that was trying to organize the merchandise tables were disrespectful too! I understand that it was very hectic, but they were kicking out people who didn't even buy anything yet! They were waiting on line before they were forced out for absolutely no reason. I loved the concert and the place was beautiful, it's just the staff that upset me.

Went last night for the Pierce the Veil but actually went to see the opening band PVRIS. Was on line at 5pm. Doors open was supposed to be 6pm. They opened late by 30 minutes and the line barely moved. They only had one door open to let people in. Talk about a bottle neck. Once inside they only had 4 people scanning tickets. FOR over 3000 people! Are you kidding me. I missed the opening band and part of the second band and I was given no explanation as to why they opened late. Just a bunch of sorrys. Outside and lobby staff were useless and unprofessional. Ushers and bartenders were nice and attentive though. Don't care about the overpriced drinks or dirty bathrooms and outdated decor. These old dive theaters in Manhattan are all the same but you have to make sure the people that are on line when doors open GET IN!!! I paid for 3 tickets to see my favorite band plus parking, gas, tolls and waited outside for 2 and a half hours for nothing. As someone that has been in the business world for over 20 years I've come to some conclusions. This place is poorly managed. Worst I've seen. Horribly untrained staff and most of all terribly understaffed. I've been to multiple venues that are a fraction of the size of Hammerstein and yet they have 3 to 4 times the amount of front end employees checking people in, with all doors open to alleviate congestion on entrance. It's almost comical how poorly this place is run. I'm guessing any good ratings for this venue were just luck or shows that weren't close to sold out. If you're coming to a sold out show, get here hours earlier and good luck with coat check and the bathrooms. So many better venues than this place. Best Buy theater for example. You can show up 10 minutes before doors open and be inside in 25 minutes. Plenty of time to coat check, hit the bathroom and get a drink before the opening act even come out. Of course they know what their doing and have a large knowledgeable staff. Hint, hint! I was worried about coming here because I was warned by so many people that this venue is pretty bad and hit or miss with getting in on time. I wished I listened. I will never come back here. I can't afford to spend all this money and time and effort to not even be let it on time. Heed my warning. This place is as bad as it gets.

I attended Miku Expo 2014 here on Saturday, October 18. The experience in this concert hall was way better than I anticipated it to be! I was seated in the 2nd mezzanine and was afraid that I wouldn't be able to see, fearing that someone taller would happen to sit in front of me, but, at Hammerstein Ballroom, that wasn't an issue! The seats were on a slant similar to stadium seats, so, no matter how tall the person in front of you was, you could see the stage clearly. The only issue was that, due to the slanted nature of the seats, it was a pretty tight space to get in and out of. Especially when carrying around freshly bought merchandise (I was lugging around a poster and a few plush dolls from the goods stand) there was hardly any space to move your legs around. With all of the adrenaline from the concert this was hardly noticeable, so it wasn't much of an issue! Overall, this concert hall was the perfect choice for this concert, as everyone was able to see Hatsune Miku perform! Smiles were all around! (along with tons of green glowsticks! :) )
