07/22/2010 10:07 pmMy wife and I tried Helen's Garden for the first time recently. The food was bland, the Salmon could not have been more then 2 oz. with a small side of rice. When I asked to substitute fries for a side of vegetables for my burger (burger was average) they told me no problem and there'd be no additional charge. Lo and behold we were charged $3 for each additional substitution. On top of poor service and mediocre offerings, it seems like they were indifferent to whether we'd ever come back again |

04/02/2010 12:35 pmI used to love this place, great specials, especially during the week for decent food. I went last night and wanted to order one of the $17 entree/glass of wine deals, which was still on the menu, but I was told was no longer offered. My girlfriend and I both ordered a bleu cheese burger. My medium-rare burger came out medium-well, and her medium burger came out well-done. Not worth complaining about at this point. There were huge mounds of bleu cheese hiding under the buns, which, when you bit into were pretty unpleasant. Fries were dried-out and over-salted. We politely told the waitress that we were unhappy with our meals, and she said she'd get the manager. The waitress (i,e., not the manager) came back and said she could only offer us dessert since we had eaten some of our food. My girlfriend had only eaten 1/3 of her burger, which was now cold because we had been waiting for the manager. My girlfriend asked to see the manager, who did appear and offered her a new entree, which is what should have happened in the first place. The manager then asked us if we would like some more wine, which we took to mean, at no charge. Our two $8 glasses of wine were of course on the bill. When I told the manager how much we liked coming there but how unhappy we were with our experience, she simply said "Ok, thanks for letting me know", No offer to compensate. No apology. Unfortunately, we won't be going back to this place we used to really enjoy. |

03/31/2010 11:37 amMy husband, elderly lady friend, and I had brunch at Helen's Garden on 3/28/10. When the harried hostess returned to her desk to confirm our reservation, the first thing she did was look at me and say, in reference to my perfectly coherent friend, "Can she make it up the steps?" My friend was highly insulted as she is certainly capable of speaking for herself. How rude to dismiss someone as if she were just "another brick in the wall". Having said that, the food was awesome and the waitresses couldn't have been more attentive as they worked to accommodate a packed house. I did think the lighting in the restroom was a bit dim. Overall, I would be willing to go again. |
