I am from Hong Kong, and after being disappointed time and time again by alleged Chinese restaurants in the United States, I am so truly glad to have found Hong Kong Eatery. This place is awesome!

So here's the breakdown:

FOOD:
Fantastic. I'm a big fan of the roast meat plates (my favorite is the combination of roast duck, roast pork, and salted chicken over rice) which come with soup and will only set you back about $9. A steal.

Also great is the fish ball soup noodles (get the hor foon, which is the flat white noodle). The noodles are thick with a slightly oily texture, and the fish balls are fresh and chewy without being rubbery. The only problem is that the soup base lacks complexity.

ENVIRONMENT:
If you're put off by roast meats hanging in the window of the shop, this isn't the place for you. The place is clean, but there is nothing fancy about this dive-y establishment. It's reminiscent of a hole-in-the-wall, but its excellent hygiene classes it up.

There can be a long line, and sometimes you'll have to share a table with others if you are a small party. This is not an uncommon practice in Hong Kong, so there's another authenticity point for Hong Kong Eatery!

Seriously, though, if you are really opposed to sharing a table, the tasty food definitely makes the wait worth it.

SERVICE:
The waitstaff can be kind of gruff, but I think that might also be a cultural thing (in Hong Kong, everything moves fast, and demonstrations of etiquette are not always a priority). More importantly, though, my food always comes out delicious, fast, and piping hot. After all, this is a restaurant, not a pay-people-to-be-friendly place.

Delicious and inexpensice cantonese roast duck, beef chow fun, and noodle soup. No frills service. Staff have very limited english, but this should not stop you from ordering their tasty offerings.
