Isaiah's Restaurant, Montgomery, Alabama Restaurant Details

I haven't been to many bed and breakfasts, but Isaiah's is what I would think most of them should be like: quiet, comfortable, and well-serviced. From the time we walked inside, our server and the host were all about making sure we were taken care of.

It's a fairly concise menu, and the flagship item is the lemon catfish. Large, incredibly fresh, and so delicately fried, the experience was only slightly marred by the underside of my fillet losing its crispiness because of residual oil that still clung to the fish. A small complaint, especially when taken on the whole with the greens and cabbage, which weren't out of the ordinary in terms of preparation from other Montgomery restaurants, but that's just because everyone seems to do them so well.

I don't know if the peach cobbler is indeed world-famous, and I don't know if I've ever had a bad cobbler, but the sundae dish filled with the stuff and topped with whipped cream was intensely sweet and intensely peachy.

From the delicate flaky catfish to the cobbler to the incredibly attentive service, Isaiah's has a lot going for it.
