Authentically Japanese with a "clientele to match", these "solid" izakayas in Midtown and the Financial District provide "real-deal" sushi and "legit" cooked dishes that result in "crowded" lunch hours; "spare" digs and "perfunctory" service are offset by a "reasonable" bottom line.

This will be my neighborhood staple! The rolls were pretty dang good, really extensive menu, good price for what you get and the servers were really nice, thats 5* in my book

Judging by just the food, I'd say this place was just okay. It was edible, but the quality of the sushi did not meet my expectation of what sushi in New York would be like. It was quite ordinary, it was probably only one step up from the sushi you can get at Wegman's supermarket.

The perplexing part was the service. Everything was just fine with the server until we finished our dinner and she came to clear our plates. I thought she asked if we wanted to see a dessert menu, so I confirmed that yes, we wanted to see a dessert menu. Well, she takes our plates away, and we sit there waiting 10 minutes. No dessert menu. (The restaurant was not busy by any means, there were probably 4 or 5 tables seated.) Then I notice that the server is just either standing around, chatting with the sushi chefs, or just walking back and forth across the restaurant. She neither comes back to ask if we want anything else, or if we want the check. Finally after 30 minutes of giving her the benefit of the doubt, we ask for the check. I don't know what that was all about, but it was strange. They had a Green Tea Mille Crepe dessert listed on the prix fixe menu, so I wanted to see the dessert menu and see if that was available a la carte, but I guess that wasn't meant to be.

Amazing value for money.
Sure there's better Japanese, but it costs way more to go even a little better than this.
Great service, excellent sake choices.

The combo boxes are just such good value!

Absolute best sushi I have ever had. Bar none. I absolutely love this place. The food, the staff, you name it. I don't know what else to say, besides that. If you love sushi and live anywhere near NYC, you need to go here.

I've been missing excellent sushi since coming from California. Other places around are pretty good, but I would not recommend them. I would definitely recommend ISE. We ordered one of the sashimi combo's and each of the varieties of fish was well flavored and perfectly textured. The seaweed salad had a delicate dressing which augmented the flavors. The rolls we had had good flavor with good texture and presentation of everything was beautiful. The servers were very attentive and efficient. Go! Enjoy!
