They "know when to fold them" (crêpes, that is) at this "romantic" Uptown "neighborhood gem", where both sweet and savory versions are bolstered by a menu of "French bistro food" ("fabulous" mussels are a standout); there are "no reservations", and the "small", mosaic-tiled space can "fill up quick" and get "noisy", but thanks to its "reliable" staff, it "never falters."

We arrived at 2:30. They close at 3:00. We were seated right away. Our waiter was polite. My mother ordered the Tomato Basil Soup (special for the day) with a side of new potatoes, my wife ordered a vegetable omelet and I ordered the crab omelet.

The tomato basil should was cold so they reheated it. The vegetables were not cooked and seasoned to my wife's liking so her dish remained half uneaten. And my crab omelet had quite a few shell fragments and a fish bone in it. I mentioned this to the waiter which he promptly dismissed saying that happens with seafood sometimes.

Their demeanor toward us, although polite, made us feel that we had inconvenienced them by coming in so close to closing time. So maybe we'll give it another try and maybe not.

This little French cafe is one of French-inspired New Orleans' best representations of the crepe cuisine. The crepes range from the savory salmon to the sweet chocolate. One of each should satisfy all your crepe cravings.

La Crepe Nanou is one of my favorite restaurants of all time.

Besides having great food, the restaurant is one of the more romantic in the city. Take a girl here for a date and you may end up married to her.

Because the restaurant is small and does not take reservations, there is often a wait. Part of the experience is cramming into the small bar while you wait and drooling over the food coming out of the kitchen.

I have been going to La Crepe Nanou for over 15 years and have never had a bad experience. My most recent experience was nearly perfect with one minor exception.

The last time I went, I was seated immediately. The problem was that I was seated at one of the first tables inside the doors. The table was so close to the neighboring tables, it was almost impossible to have a private conversation. When you are trying to have a romantic meal, sitting that close to some loud, irritating woman puts a damper on the romance. Next time I will just wait for a different table.

Besides great ambiance, the food is wonderful. The mussels in the wine and cream sauce are the best in the city. On my most recent visit, I ordered the gratin de fruits de mer to start. While I may have spelled it incorrectly, it was delicious. Imagine rich cheese, crabmeat, and shrimp baked together in a bowl. If you order this, you will not be disappointed.

I love this restaurant for many reasons. Give it a try and you will too.

Pretty good stuff. If you can keep your party on a budget it's not bad but I never seem to make it out of there for under $30 a person. The cheese plates are nice but tend to be a bit underwhelming. The Salmon Crepe is fantastic, full of strong flavors and surprisingly filling.
