This is the best Mexican restaurant in all of Denver Metro! We've been going for over 20 years and the quality is Excellently consistent! Fun waitresses, and ALWAYS have the shredded beef burritos, green sauce! Everything is homemade and you can tell how "hot" the meal will be based on that evening's salsa. Don't believe any negative reviews. This place is absolutely the best!

To call the experience a disappointment is an understatement. Nothing about the restaurant commanded the relative price premuim they asked for. Food was fair, at best.

A year ago someone who works nearby told me I should check this place out. One weekend a friend of mine, a fellow Mexican food enthusiast, and I drove over there to give it a try. However, as it turns out, we went on a Sunday and the restaurant is closed on Sundays. Something about being a christian family owned operation.

So, we went a block down the street and ate a La Morena's Mexican Restaurant.

It took a while for me to try La Cueva again, as it's not anywhere near where I live, where I work or along routes I normally drive. I brought the same friend and, dammit, it was Sunday!

Are you kidding me?

So, months later the same friend and I were trying to find Los Farolitos. When that turned out to be a bust, we decided to give La Cueva a try. Giving this was a Saturday, we were reasonably sure The Cave would be open.

However, we were not impressed. As soon as we walked in the door we were overwhelmed with the stench of a bathroom that exploded. Have you ever been privy to that odor? In a restaurant?

Not wanting to give up we chose a table as far from the restrooms we could find and ordered.

Both of us walked away thinking "Meh." The food was nothing special and definitely nothing to recommend someone should go out of their way for. Was it better than Casa Vallarta? Sure. Was it worth the $5 in gas to get there and back? Absolutely not.

My friend ordered a combination as a chance to try a number of dishes without having to commit and I ordered some fancy taco that wasn't impressive enough to remember the name of.

Meh.

I think, when I want good Mexican food I'll drive past La Cueva and head on over to La Morena's. Not only was their menu better, but their food and service was better. I've eaten there a handful of times now, even on my birthday, and haven't found anything not to like.

Shredded beef buritto with beans and rice with green chile. It is always very good.
I have been going for 7 years and I have never had a bad meal. Great little family owned restaurant.
