03/20/2015 4:45 pm![]() One of my really good friends who is hispanic and has family in San Antonio suggested that we stop in and try out the tamales a few years ago.We picked up three dozen to go. Before we could get out of the parking lot and on the freeway back to Dallas, half a dozen had been consumed. They were warm, fresh and delicious. My brother is taking a trip down this weekend. I get to enjoy more of this wonderful fare on Sunday. Looking forward to it. Thanks for being a staple in San Antonio. |

12/18/2009 7:32 pm![]() I've lived in San Antonio for over 40 years and when younger, we would get tamales for Xmas. Not so much lately but I decided to order some to take to Houston since last year my sister served "Houston Tamales" and they were lousy. So I looked around a bit, reading local reviews of tamales and online ones here - usually of the traditional locations with long lines and sometimes poor service at this time of year. And not all the reviews of those places are good. So I started thinking - why not just get them at the place I usually go to get a couple dozen? Jimenez on Goliad is right in the neighborhood, has great tamales and friendly service all the time. And unlike the "delicious" brand, I can order from them at least thru the week before Xmas week, maybe later, and pick them up as late as Xmas Eve late afternoon. So that's what I did this year and I'm confident my sister and entire family will be happy to have real San Antonio Tex-Mex tamales! (The chicken tamales will be for her!) BTW, I normally get the "spicy pork" tamales from Jimenez - they aren't HOT, just a little more flavorful with just the right amount of spices. |
