Lanning's Restaurant, Akron, Ohio Restaurant Details

Food:

Disappointed. Must have caught them on a bad night??. No one tended to our table until after 8 minutes when we finally said something. When the waiter came he simply said there was some confusion. No apology however.

We then asked for some bread while we were having drinks. We were told that bread would be served with appetizers. (?) So I cannot have any now?

At the recommendation of the waiter I ordered the 10oz filet as he stated they were known for their file's. Perfect I thought.....until it arrived.

I ordered my steak medium as I always do. This filet was on the very rare side. I sent it back. I have not sent a steak back in years as I tend to not complain very often, but I could not eat raw meat. The steak was delivered again. Close but no cigar, this time the chef was able to get it to medium rare but still a band of raw in the middle. Back it goes a second time...I have never done that in my life and certainly did not expect to here. All the while, each time, no apologies. In the meantime the rest of my party had finished their meals and my steak was still in the kitchen. The steak finally came back where some if it appeared medium and some of if was charred from being on the grill multiple times. At this point I would have expected a visit from the manager. Nothing. I then asked the waiter to speak to the manager. Again no apologies from the manager, he simply offered me a cocktail or a desert, neither if which I was interested in.

I eat out a lot, always trying new places. I was not fishing for a free meal but honestly at any other restaurant, especially a high end one charging $48 for a 10oz filet, this meal would have been comped or at least significantly discounted. Disappointing service and food quality.

My wife and I went for Valentine's dinner. Service was excellent throughout our dinner. We had the Tuna Mignon and Porterhouse. Both were cooked perfectly.

My husband and I were disappointed at the service, food and ambience. It's an expensive restaurant to not have them right. We were supposed to celebrate and enjoy our first wedding anniversary, but it ruined it. Anyway the waiter was always in a rush, my husband meal was cold and people at the table next to us were swearing all the time, how rude!! The manager wouldn't say anything because the man who was swearing was a restaurant owner, well he should know better how to behave in a restaurant. Basically poor managment. We don't recommend this place. Obviously we are never going again.

Food:

Lansing's was the first restaurant we dined in after moving to Akron 38 yrs ago. We were celebrating our 12th anniversary and had a wonderful experience.
The restaurant had not changed in atmosphere in all those years and only on one occasion did we have a meal that wasn't right near the best.

The waiters have always been attentive and courteous and we've never had to wait for our table.

Food:

I can always be certain that the restaurant is going to be good when the locals recommend it. Sure enough, this place was very good. My guest ordered lamp chops and I ordered a filet that was cooked perfectly medium rare. I always worry about overcooking the steak, but my waiter assured me it would be as I requested. Indeed it was. I had an enjoyable meal, and will definitely come back to Lanning's when I visit the area again.
