Several members of my family and I went to Lizzie's on a weeknight in late August. We entered just as they were opening for their dinner shift (5:30 p.m.), and so we were seated immediately.

The staff was very friendly, the food didn't take too long (although it could have been a bit quicker), and the food was very good. I was a bit disappointed in the portion size of my dish (Chicken Chesapeake) but the other plates all had very good sized portions. Everyone was happy with their dinner. Everyone was happy with their food. Mine tasted great (it was just a bit smaller than I expected, especially in comparison to the other plates).

I'll keep this short: only go here if you have all the time in the world. The owners are absolutely lost and a clusterfuck to deal with. Service is incredibly slow even to fulfill the most basic order. Getting drinks took 20 minutes. Appetizers took ~35 minutes. It took their kitchen over an hour to churn out 2 pizzas (partially hurt by their giving away one of our pizzas to another table that came in 30 minutes after us, a mistake they couldn't even acknowledge). All through this time the wife owner is remarking how they're fulfilling the orders as fast as they can and that good food takes time. No, it actually doesn't take that long for a pizza to cook if you have someone halfway competent making it. Speaking of which, that brings me to the husband owner. The wife is scatterbrained but good intentioned; the husband is an asshole. My mom is diabetic and needed to eat, so this wasn't just an issue of convenience. When we finally got our food we mention the wait time, and the husband owner actually snapped at us for speaking up. It's one thing if a place has an older chef who is no longer competent (why they wouldn't hire him some help is another issue) and cannot churn out orders efficiently; it's another situation when that asshole get indignant about it and snaps at paying customers. We walked out right then. We only got to try the garlic hearts (tiny) and chicken tenders (baked not fried), neither of which was good anyway. Do yourself a favor and don't come here. Other than a small cute factor there is no redeeming quality.

This is the perfect place to go if you want slow service and attitude from the owner.

We went to Lizzies in mid-June for breakfast. There were two of us. The only other occupied table in the restaurant was a party of five. Despite the fact that the restaurant was essentially empty, it still took about 40 minutes for our scrambled eggs and breakfast sandwich to come out!

We went back to Lizzies today, July 11th. There were a few open tables but we were still asked to wait a bit before being seated. After being seated the female owner came over and asked what we wanted to drink and we asked for coffee and a glass of water. 10 minutes later, we still didn't have the coffee or water. It's as if she forgot about it.

Now I live in OC part time, so I completely understand how restaurants get crowded in the summer and things can be slower. But at least serve the beverages. How long does it take to pour a cup of coffee?

Remembering that it took 40 minutes for breakfast the last time we were here and considering the fact that the restaurant had most of the tables occupied (and waiting on food), we decided to leave. I had an appointment and didn't have time for a long wait. Not a big deal since we still didn't have our beverages. On the way out, the female owner said to my daughter "Patience is a virtue . . . what can I tell you?". Really???? Totally unprovoked, as neither of us had said anything on the way out!

If it were me, I would have apologized for the service that was moving at the speed of an iceberg.

We still had a great breakfast. We went right across the street to Leo's, an OC staple. As usual, Leo and his cooks were there pumping out orders. The restaurant was essentially full, but we were seated immediately. Our waitress came over in about a minute, and we had coffee in another two. Omelettes came out about five minutes after that!

The food at this hidden gem is absolutely amazing. The environment is laid back and inviting. The two owners, Cathy and Neil, both prepare all the food fresh themselves. Their menu has all of the breakfast/lunch classics as well as some home made specialties. The cinnamon bun is also to die for! I recommend this place to all my friends coming into town looking for great food at a reasonable price. I also love supporting family owned businesses and look forward to coming back next time I find myself in Ocean City!!!!
