Having been to Mac's before I was quite taken aback on how much both the food and the service disappointed.
Pros: we were shown to our seats immediately, 6:30 on a Monday is not a busy time for them so we we sat with plenty of elbow room. The busboy was very helpful throughout the night; clearing dishes, making sure we had everything we needed, and finding our waiter who never seemed to be around. Once ordered, the food came out quickly

Cons: Food wise; we had over cooked and rubbery lobster, an under cooked medium-rare steak (cool in the middle). For dessert a cold 'warm' apple crisp and a two cappuccinos that were more like coffee with a ton of milk in them. Our waiter was never around and seemed put off when we requested a dessert menu. We were there for 2 1/2 hours and was mostly spent waiting to order food and/or a beverage.

Mac's was one of the few restaurants with availability on a Saturday night when we wanted to eat out. I suppose that counts as a positive, but following a meal whose mediocrity was overshadowed only by its high price, I could understand why they weren't full.

The service was amateurish. The waitress couldn't remember the specials, had to double-check our orders, didn't do a quality check on the main course, and served us luke-warm tea.

The cocktails were horrible. The pear martini tasted like paint thinner that had once been held above some pears in a supermarket. The Mai Tai and tangerine martinis weren't much better.

The food was hit and miss. For appetizers, the lobster quesadilla and the spinach and cheese dip were excellent, but the calamari was rubbery and barely had any flavor. For dinner, the roasted pear salad was good, the seafood pasta was OK, and the filet mignon was unimpressive. I ordered it medium but it arrived medium well, and it came with the runniest bernaise sauce I've ever seen in my life.

I highly recommend Mac's to anyone who wants to eat in Huntington but can't get a reservation anywhere else and doesn't mind paying twice as much as they should for poor service and average food.

Using a Travelzoo voucher, I was giving this restaurant a second chance. Should've saved my money. First, note that both my husband and I got food poisoning...was it the lobster bisque? The creamed spinach? Both? And besides sending back our steak to go from raw to rare (asked for medium rare/medium), we were first given the entrees of a neighboring table which sat on ours for 10 minutes. Then the busboy picked them up, walked towards the kitchen, went behind the curtain by the kitchen and pirouetted right out with the same meal for that table. I heard the cold food complaint from them. Should've ducked out then, realizing the kitchen was unreliable.
And for a 6:30 reservation, they didn't have the steaks listed on the blackboard?
Well, diner beware. Hoping to start feeling better soon, but will never go back.

We happened upon Mac's Steakhouse in Huntington, NY by accident. I was looking for a place to take my mom for a special dinner, she has been ill. Our dinner at Mac’s was perfect. The staff was amazingly accommodating. I cannot say enough about how helpful and nice the staff was so helpful with my mom’s mobility impairment and unfailingly polite. The food delicious and perfectly prepared some of the best steak I have ever had. You will not go wrong with Mac’s!

In a sea of steakhouses this one is forgettable. Steak was good, but not great. Interesting grilled calamari appetizer that wound up relatively bland. Main dining room never got full but the upstairs clearly was having a private party - with DJ whose music did not complement the 80's b-sides that were coming out of the house's main sound system. Waitress was polite but largely unattentive. If you're used to Blackstone's, Luger's, etc - skip it
