Maria's Restaurant is the best for authentic Italian food in Portland. I have been here many times and I'm never disappointed. Anthony Jr and Gregory Napolitano have the best food for catered affairs as well. If you want to look at the Portland waterfront, then you go to DiMillo's. But for real Italian food, the fresh catch of the day, outstanding desserts, and Gregory's famous lemoncello, head to Maria's on Cumberland Avenue in Portland, ME.

Unhygienic resturant. When brought the issue to waitress's attention, but she rolled her eyes and did not acknowledge the problem. Needless to say, we won't recommend this place.

It was absolutely incredible. Authentic Italian, great service and the food was amazing. As visitors to Portland, this is the best food we've had on the trip so dad. Would recommend to anyone.

This is not a restaurant you go to for a quick meal before a movie or show. The pace here is leisurely. Marias is very small, intimate. It is ideal for conversation amongst a group of friends, or a romantic dinner for two. Marias is a great place to relax; talk over drinks, an excellent wine; accenting a diverse menu of Italian specialties personally crafted by a caring knowledgeable chef. This is a man who takes great pride in his craftsmanship. Never have I experienced a restaurant so willing to make your stay as pleasant as possible. I had selected a dish made with veal, but preferred it made with chicken. That chicken dinner was excellent. The service was unobtrusive, yet always there. Our waiter was very knowledgeable, friendly, and conversant. My wife summed up our experience perfectly by saying: "so relaxing, I feel as though we just had dinner at a friend's home."; a home, with two brothers; one a master chef while the other was the warm welcoming host. Relax, talk, eat excellent food, enjoy. This is what a restaurant should be. We love Marias and will return often.

Our reservation for 9 guests was for 7pm. We made this reservation a few weeks ago and had to make a $200.00 deposit because it was New Years Eve. We all arrived on time. There was only two wait staff and one other person whose responsibility was to provide water.
The menu was a set four course menu. We received our first course at 8pm. Service as extremely slow. We finished our main course at 10:30pm and took our deserts home.....Other guests who arrived after us were served promptly.
In addition our waiter was unable to keep the drink orders straight and made errors with the entrees.
Very disappointing experience.
