10/07/2015 1:30 amWe have been going there for years, but when I read this bad review in the paper. I just knew the reviewer got up off the wrong side of the bed that day. Mara's is a landmark place on Passyunk Ave, You are walking back into the Mid Century place, I hope they don't change it. YOU CAN NOT EAT AMBIANCE but you eat great authentic Italian food, brick oven pizza the way we like it. Service has always been from good to great, hey when you are very busy like this place is on a Friday night everyone hustles and helps out but service is not a problem. My friends come from the Main Line and pass a hundred Italian restaurants on the way down. But we meet here. WHY? because the food is always done the way you want it and delicious. |

05/29/2015 12:29 pmMarra's is done. We have been loyal customers for 25 years at Marra's, but they have recently declined to the point where we can no longer give them another chance. What once was an excellent friendly place has deteriorated into horrible service and lousy food. The last time we went was indicative of their unfortunate demise. We waited over 20 minutes before the server came to us. We ordered beer, mussels, and the pizza pescatore (usually awesome). The mussels came out and were rotten (that happens, but they really stank). We decided not to have another, because it was a long time and our pizza was due out. After about an hour, they brought the wrong pizza. To make things worse, the server was completely inattentive. She was too busy making phone calls on her mobile and telling everyone how horrible her day was. Unprofessional, unpleasant, and unworthy! |

08/29/2014 10:47 pmI've been eating here since 1980, one of the first restaurants I came to love in Philadelphia. I love to come back, time and again. They have great brick-oven, thin-crust pizza. The atmosphere is unpretentious, the food is very good, but not too fancy - the way I like it (too many restaurants seem to "cater" to how it looks, not tastes). Marra's is good solid Italian fare, nice pastas, salads, and frutti di mari, along with traditional pork and veal. Like mamma made it, and in this case gramamma, too. The canole are not filled until you order them, so the shells remain crisp, not soggy. Ricotta e pezzetti di cioccolato are my favorite. Marra's: try it, you'll like it. Buon appetito, tutti! |
