I have been dining at Millenium for years & this was my last meal before they close in San Francisco on May 1, 2015 & reopen this summer in Oakland, but with the same chef & manager, but new owners. Last night, we had a raw salad, their daily soup, sopes, fritters, tia cake, sticky rice, the orange creamsicle drink, & damiana soda. The food was good. Millenium is a high price end, creative, vegan restaurant. The menu is varied & changes regularly. You will not find vegetarian substitutes for usual non vegetarian foods. Instead you will find creative dishes & ingredients. There are some regular menu items that I want to highlight - the black bean torte & the chocolate midnight desert. Recently, we also had the flatbread, soup, polenta, risotto cake, & for drinks, the sweet ending, creamsicle & sparkling grape. If you are a San Francisco Vegetarian Society member & show your card, you get 10% off. I & the people I have dined here with including friends, family & my wife, have always loved the food here. On special occasions, they have a fixed price menu & that can also be nice. Their gourmet cakes, needing 2 days advance notice, to order, are some of the best cakes around - vegan or not! This is a restaurant that we like to come to once or twice a year for special occasions or with guests. Parking is on the street or in a local garage. Be sure to make reservations - they fill up weeks in advance. They are not open for lunch.

I know that this is vegan food, but I've had better. The quality of the dishes was inconsistent, some were great but others were almost inevitable. With that said that service was excellent and they were very conscious and accommodating to allergies.

I had two totally different experiences here. They were both so long ago that I forget what we actually ate for the dish names, but alas.

The first time, I made a reservation months in advance at a time of a weeknight that was not the time that we wanted to eat, we felt the food was waaaay overpriced compared to other upscale vegetarian eateries, we had an appetizer that was average and an entrée that was flavorless and dry, my kid hated her meal, and dessert that we sent back because it tasted like a cookie that came out of a box. Service was great.

The second time, we were staying at the Kimpton hotel right across the street, and we had no reservation but could literally see the restaurant out of our hotel room and didn't want to take our car out of valet to go eat dinner, so we walked in, and were seated right away somehow. The food was 110% amazing. We were there with 2 carnivores, who were blown away by the tastiness and uniqueness of the dishes. We ate with 5 people for the same price that we had eaten with 3 people years ago. The appetizers were to write home about. Taste, robustness, uniqueness, texture, creativity, etc. I had a soup that was in the top 3 soups I've ever eaten in my life. All 4 entrees we ordered were amazing. The 2 desserts we had were heavenly. The white Russian I drank was not only the best vegan one I'd ever had in my life, but the best one of all, ever, maybe the best drink I've ever had at all in my entire life.

Because of the second experience, I'd DEFINITELY go back again. Maybe the first time was an off night for being super busy, for the waiter, the chef, pastry chef, everything. It just was plain disappointing. The second time, I see what people write home about with this place. It was truly within the best vegetarian meals I've ever had in my life. So try it, and if you don't like it (or hate it), try it again, and maybe you will have the best meal ever like I did!

The food was amazing, so many divine flavors. We had the crusted king trumpet mushrooms, the brik purse, and the Portobello mushroom. Our service was lacking, the gentleman never properly greeted us, we barely got two words out of the guy. He was very cold and short, the staff that served us our drinks and dishes were much more friendlier and kind. Even our busser was more pleasant than our server. Really disappointed about that. The restaurant has a very nice ambiance though.

This restaurant seriously changed my little vegetarian life. Until eating here I never knew that vegetarian food could taste so good. This is a true gourmet restaurant so eating multiple courses and spending more money is to be anticipated. Treat yourself and give it a try. I also have purchased all the cook books and have thrilled and amazed guests with each and every recipe I have attempted.
