Neely''s Bar-b-que Restaurant, Memphis, Tennessee Restaurant Details

Food:

Out of all the big name BBQ in Memphis, Neely's is by far the MOST well-known thanks to the Food Network and the MOST overrated due to possibly having the WORST BBQ around town.

I tried every meat here and every vegetables they have. When you can't beat Top's BBQ, you know you're doing something wrong. Not that Top's BBQ is terrible or something, I use Top's as the baseline of BBQ. In any other town, Top's would be fantastic. Enough about Top's, here we have Neely's. The sauce is too weak. The meat is dry and has little to none smoky flavor. Especially, avoid the chicken, y'all.

I've taken 4 different people from out of town to Neely's because of the name, they've all hated it. I've also taken them to either Rendezvous, Corky's, Central, or Tom's; and clearly, Neely's isn't even close to any of them. Neely's might be a little bit better than Top's, and that's it. And I mean it; it MIGHT BE. Sure, like Top's, in another town, Neely's would be fantastic. But is this all Neely's is? Tourist trap?

I don't understate why Neely Sr at Interstate BBQ has a distinct flavor to it. Why can't his nephews sell BBQ that's the comparable?

I'm glad that the Neely's are representing Memphis on the Food Network, but can they make something that even Memphis people would like?

Food:

The food is pretty good until you start looking around. The establishment is pretty horrible.. Cob webs hanging across the table lamps are scary and the ceiling vents well, do yourself a favor and don't look.. There is enough dirt and lint blocking the vents to just about make you sick. I'm thinking to myself that that stuff might fall in my food. There is a slight smell of mildew/musty. Everything has a slight greasy feel to the cups and table and booths. The few times I have gone the radio so loud its kinda ridiculous. Sadly, when I have guests come in from out of town they suggest going to Neeley's and I tell them why we wont go.

Disappointing. Food was average, place was dimly lit and service was passable.

This place was TERRIBLE!! I cant believe the Neelys are ok with being associated with this establishment. My boyfriend watches their show on the food network and said we had to go there. Well first of all, it looks like a hood spot with ghetto staff. Our waitress was extremely rude to me. i asked for silverware, which was plastic cutlery wrapped in napkins. I got BBQ sauce all over my hand when i went to open my menu. and then when i went to unwrap the silverware there was sauce on there too! This place is disgusting!!! They had crooked tables and stuffing coming out of the chair seats. My daughter wouldnt eat her chix tenders and i dont blame her, i got the same thing and they were sick. also, the fries are flavorless and taste like frozen supermarket fries. My boyfriend ordered bbq spaghetti which he said was good. he got pork ribs that were tasteless and he also said his fries were wack. Would NOT recommend. Lemonade tasted like kool-aid. BAD BAD BAD!!!

Very very disappointed. I had talked this place up before taking out-of-towners there over the Thanksgiving break. What a huge mistake that was!!

Service was below-par, and the ribs were very uninspired. The BBQ nachos were ridiculously embarrassing. When you go to a restaurant as well-known as Neely's, you expect BBQ nachos to use real cheddar cheese, right? Not Neely's. Instead, they use that runny nacho cheese sauce...horrible...I've had better nachos at the ballpark... I expected better out of Neely's....I won't be going back.

If I want BBQ nachos , I will go to Central BBQ (who have enough pride in their food to put real cheese on their nachos), and if I want ribs, I will go to the Rendezvous or Cozy Corner.
