Really liked this place, the upstairs location warm and welcoming. The beers were tasty, the service friendly, the food menu was simple, well prepared, and generous. We highly recommend.

We were up in Philly for a concert and decided to grab a few local beers before the show. Nodding head was close to where we parked, so we stopped in. We were promptly greeted and seated and introduced to their beer menu. I went for the Berliner Weisse and my wife had the coffee stout. Berliner Weisse was pretty tasty, I would order it again. The coffee stout would be great if you like carbonated black coffee. Strong roasty coffee flavor, but overall not a great example of a java stout.

Now for the negatives; Wings were inedible, wayyyyy over-salted and the sauce was basically chipotle in adobo sauce, salt, and maybe tabasco. The atmosphere was dingy, run-down, and lacked any sort of character or charm. The brewery did look well-kept and clean, but the customer area left much to be desired. Overall we will not be back.

Waitress was terrible. Not attentive, took our orders one or two at a time (there were four of us). Beers and mac n cheese were ok- not bad, but certainly nothing special. The wait staff failed to clean up a bottle of ketchup that they knocked over. Only acknowledging the spill after I cleaned up most of the broken glass myself.

To top off our lovely night, a mouse decided to scurry out of a booth to say hi. A few of his friends joined him later (I apologize, perhaps the mouse was a she).

I have been here several times before, but never for a sit down meal. I will not be returning. Even for the free phone charger. If I want to drink in a dirty bar, I'll stick to Oscar's.

We are long time lovers of Nodding Head and have been going to Sunday jazz brunch as a family tradition. This time we went after awhile and asked if Pete was working. We were informed Pete left. The server didn't go over any specials with us and barely greeted us with a smile. When we turned around and looked at the wall behind us, we saw all the delicious specials and asked to change 2 out of 4 orders placed. There was no apology about not telling us the specials ahead of time and when the food arrived, the "T" from the BLT was missing, french toast crust was burnt and service continued to be less than adequate. Not to mention they added 18% gratuity to our bill and when I asked how many people they needed in a party, the lady who took our beverage order said, "Five or more". We had our 2 1/2 year old son with us who did not order any food and he was included as person #5. Then we were were told that she would have to talk to our server, since she didn't serve us. When the bill arrived back with my credit card, I saw 18% gratuity was charged and she did not change anything. Sadly to say, we are retiring from Nodding Head as our family's favorite place for Sunday brunch.

Out of only a handful of real brewpubs (where they actually brew on the premises), Nodding Head is the best in Philly, in my opinion. The serve a good variety of their own brews- usually a good stout, a pilsner and an English-style ale or two. If you want to go to a place that sells a gazillion and one different types of bottled beer, then you are not looking for a true brew pub anyway.

However, if you are looking for a great spot that brews its own quality beer varieties to hang out with friends and maybe get a nice sandwich or some appetizers- this is a great place to go if you are near Center City Philadelphia. Their pulled pork sandwiches and onion rings are delicious!

It is just 6 blocks or so from either the Market East or Suburban SEPTA train stations for those, like me, who prefer to take the train when possible on night spot excursions into the city.
