01/21/2015 1:16 amWhen I walked into North Dragon it reminded me of the first Chinese restaurant I can remember going to. That was back in the 80's, but this place seems like it may not have been refinished since those days. But that didn't bother me when I dined there the other night. The menu is mostly Chinese-American food (lo-mein, moo goo gai pan, sweet and sour pork, and about two dozen variations of the previous). For me, the best test of any fine Psuedo Chinese restaurant is their General Tso's Chicken ($7.99). So I ordered that, my fiance had beef lo-mein($6.95). We also had crab rangoon ($3.50). The crab rangoon were crispy and fresh, albeit no real crab, wasn't expecting any though. The lo-mein, also huge portion, was quite good, and real lo-mein noodles, not spaghetti noodles like some establishments use. My chicken came out and the portion was generous especially for $8, came with a side of steamed rice and a pretty carved turnip rose (try getting that at Panda Express). Like I mentioned the chicken pieces were huge and yes mostly dark meat as mentioned by a previous review although absolutely no bone pieces anywhere. But dark meat is better tasting anyway, it's just science, I won't get into it here but you can read up on it. The sauce was a little more syrupy than I like but the chicken had a little bit of crunch and was otherwise really tasty. Anyway, yes this place appears to have been around a while but that doesn't mean it isn't any good. After our meal the waiter even brought out a little (one scoop) complimentary bowl of strawberry ice cream, it was a nice gesture. I will definably go back to North Dragon, it was a nice little neighborhood spot and for the price it was definitely worth it. Note: As far as I could see there was no buffet, so if you need a buffet you might have to go down the street to China One, although it is not nearly as good, in my opinion. |

01/04/2015 11:07 pmWe went here New Year's Eve (12/31/14). There are boxes and junk all over the restaurant and bar. The bathroom toilet looked like it had vomit in it. Someone was cutting greens on an open table in the back (I saw it on the way to the bathroom). It took them 10 minutes to get a waitress to take our to-go order and 45 more minutes to get the food. The food was tasteless and overall nasty. I would not recommend eating there to anyone who is concerned about health and overall cleanliness of a restaurant. |

02/21/2014 4:27 pmI would have given North Dragon 5 stars BUT I wish they had more of a noddle selection. But as for the rest of the food it is great. I always get General Tso's Chicken. I am not a fan of dark meat I find it a bit slimy but all I have to do is ask them to make it with white meat and they seem more than happy to make me happy and it is SO much better with white meat. My husbands always orders the Sweet and Sour Chicken. The Chicken is cooked perfectly and the sweet and sour sauce is delicious. I can not comment on anything else on the menu BUT Chicken is a pretty safe bet when ordering Chinese. |

12/11/2013 12:34 amMy family and I have been coming here since we first moved here when I was little. Its our go to for Chinese in KC. Staff is always friendly and food is always fantastic. Crab rangoon is delicious and so is the fried rice. Plus the little bowl of ice cream and fortune cookie you get at the end is the cherry on top. Love North Dragon. |
