01/13/2015 4:10 pmI loved this restaurant. It is very small, approximately 22 seats, dark. There is a long bar in the back of the restaurant, as well as a lounge in the basement. As we started reading our menus in this dimly light room, our waitress came by to ask us if we would like any drinks. We ordered a beer and a cola. We started with the endive salad consisting of endive, candied walnuts, apples, and chunks of blue cheese. It was a good mixture of salty and sweet with a lively oil and vinegar dressing (no mayo in the dressing). The beer cheese potatoes were very interesting. There were several different types of potatoes: blue, red brown, fingerlings, and other variety. They were well seasoned and served with a cheese whole-grain mustard. Very unique. I ordered the monk fish. It was a moderate portion served with beets, parsnips, and a curry gravy. Not heavy curry but a light, well seasoned gravy. It was delicious. My friend ordered the rib eye steak special. It was delicious. The portion was huge. the meat was cut into 6 large pieces plus the bone. It had a perfect brown crust on the outside, while the inside was a cool medium rare center. The meat was well seasoned. It came with potatoes. All of the food is straight off their farm in the Hudson Valley. Everything was delicious. We did not wait long for any of the courses. The beer was icy cold. We tried the panna cotte dessert. It was refreshing. Service was very good. The entire staff was very friendly and helpful. Prices were on the expensive side. I would go back again. |

10/18/2013 9:21 pmThis is my favorite restaurant in the neighborhood. The food here is fantastic!! It's all local farm so expect freshness. The menu changes often according to what is in season. I've loved everything I've eaten from here throughout the years. This place never gets old. The ambiance is great as it's dark, woodsy rustic dim lit feel. It has a downstairs space where you can simply order small snacks and drinks if you're not up for having dinner upstairs. The cocktails are really great with them being one of the first nice cocktail spots in the neighborhood prior to all these other cocktail spots opening up. Everything you eat here is well worth it and the price is right for the quality you get. P.S. Everyone loves the burger!! It's god sent! |

06/07/2015 5:06 pmThis "cool little" Bushwick "pioneer" is a "solid" bet for real-deal "farm-to-table" American fare, where your meal might even feature foraging finds from the husband-and-wife proprietors; its "warm" and "unassuming" quarters include a fireplace-equipped "den" downstairs serving cocktails and snacks till 1 AM. |
