"Been around forever", these old-world bakeries teem with "delicious Polish treats", "beautiful" "special-occasion cakes" and pastries made from "quality ingredients"; the "hospitable staff" makes the "sweet-smelling" shops even more "inviting", and while some feel they're "a little pricey", most "recommend them to everyone."

I have been coming to this bakery for many years now. This morning I have purchased a cake for my son's 20th birthday. I was never so disappointed in its quality as I was today. The cake tasted very dry, old, and a moldy. I offered it to my guests, but they weren't able to eat it after having couple of bites. I took it back to the bakery for a return, but was told they can't refund me my money back without having a receipt. I have purchased the cake in the am the same day, brought it back home and discarded the plastic bag along with the receipt into the trash. The bakery clerk called her manager who has decided (without seeing & tasting it) via phone that the cake was fresh and wouldn't want to return my money back. Also, I was told that many people try to scam them by bringing back cakes from different bakeries or in boxes from different bakeries. The cake I brought back into the bakery was in the original box as I have purchased it this morning. I am very dissatisfied with the way this situation was handled by the management and because of this I will never purchase their cakes again. After coming home from the failed attempt to return the cake back, I called their production office and spoke with one gentleman who told me: "Please go ahead and leave us a bad review. We have a lot of stores and clients so that if we wouldn't make good cakes then people would not come to us". Obviously, they don't care about me as their customer so I will not go back & recommend it to anybody else.

If I could give them NEGATIVE 5 stars, I would.

The Belmot location of Oakmill Bakery is awful. The customer service is despicable. I ordered a cake over the phone. When I picked up the cake it was completely the wrong cake. They refused to take responsibility. Part of the problem is that they don't have staff that speaks adequate English. When you first call the girl that answers the phone has to hand the phone to someone else because she can't understand what you are calling for. When I went into the store to pick up the cake and told one of the girls that I was there to pick up a cake she looked at me perplexed. Had no idea what I was talking about, didn't know how to work the register. In addition they have two cakes with the same name (champagne toast cake and the champagne cake) and they didn't clarify which was which when taking the order. I would never recommend this bakery to any, especially if they have a special occasion.

Oak Mill Bakery is a string of bakeries located in Chicago. We stopped in the Belmont St. location on the Monday before Fat Tuesday to pick up some paczki's. The store is pretty small and in located in a strip mall. When you walk in, there's two counters and a couple small tables if you were to enjoy your pastries there.

We went to the counter and the paczki's were located behind the counter. The girls working knew what we were there for. Their English was a little broken with a think Polish accent, but we were able to figure out what was in each one. We got a dozen paczki's to go and it only set us back a little over $12. All told, we were in and out and back on our way out of the city in about 10 minutes.

They also had some other interesting creations that looked really good, but we knew we were getting enough sugar with what we got, so we passed.
