Old Town Mexican Cafe, San Diego, California Restaurant Details

I am 75 years old and have traveled the world extensively, having served 22 years in the USN followed by 21 years as a Field Service Rep with GE A/C Engines; needless to say I have experienced the food and service in hundreds of restaurants; the Old Town Mexican Cafe in Old Town, San Diego, easily fits into my top 3 or 4 favorites. My wife and I first visited OTMC 24 years ago, while in SD on business, since that time I have bragged about and recommended OTMC to hundreds of folks.

On Wed 9/8/2015, we finally found our way back to OTMC while visiting SD for a wedding. I am happy to report that everything was just as I remembered it; the food and the ambiance were superb and the service was excellent. In 1991, the first things to catch my eye, were the ladies making tortillas in the front window; the ladies are still there and just as beautiful and eye catching as ever.

I had a moment to chat with the Manager; (Rosenzo), he had a very friendly, easy manner and happily welcomed us back to Old Town Mexican Cafe. If you are planning a trip to San Diego, don't miss this cultural icon, it is near the airport and worth and extra $20 cab fare or thirty minute drive to get there. Went for the first time, and had an awesome time. Good service friendly atmosphere. Had to wait about 40mins to be seated, but it was worth the wait.

Food:

Sat at the bar and had the casa verde. Fast hot and delicious. Recommend and it is close to authentic Mexican food. The Mexican Martini was good also

I went there midday and it was very quiet and awkwardly silent. The food was decent i would not get the chicken burrito as it was very dry. The service was good. The also had mariachis going around and playing for tips, which was cool.

If you are looking around i would recommend chwcking out other places as the food here is not the best.

Great experience! The wait time only 10 minutes for early dinner. My kids liked it too! The staff was very welcoming and catering. Fun place to eat.
