I go to Pancho's every time we go to Memphis. The hot tamales are special! and they serve it on a piping hot plate. We have been going to Pancho's since the late 60's and still love it. In my opinion, it's the best Mexican food EVER...

I gave it one star bc u have to give it a star to do rating... And Mary, our waitress was superb and the guacamole were fantastic'... BUT We had a party of 22.. 5 people had hair in their food... FIVE!!! Same length, same color... I'm sure some of us missed ours! Lol... Food was not good, my "fajitas" were so bland, but even worse I had to scrape them off the hot plate onto the saucer my tortillas came on bc they were burning so bad and sticking to hot plate. It SMELLED horrific. The chicken, cheese, and rice, was burnt chicken, with some rice, with melted cheddar cheese I it... They charged us for 2 chicken breast, the rice, and then the cheese. The food was horrible, It was insane. And after finding the hair, they brought more food out that of course no one would eat.. And charged everyone for it. First and last time to grace those doors!

I've been eating at this location of Pancho's for around forty years. Like all restaurants there are occasional bloopers, but here they are rare and I haven't experienced any in the last two years of eating there monthly. Old time Memphians consider Pancho's a city treasure. Pancho's started in Memphis in the mid-1950s and was one of the first 'Tex-Mex" style restaurants in the country and one of the very best. They have in recent years become more Mexican authentic, but their Tex-Mes roots are still apparent. They are particularly known for their special Taco Dressing and their Cheese Dip which are so popular that they are also sold in grocery stores. I love all of their dishes but I'm particularly fond of their Cheese and Onion Enchiladas. They used to have more locations. In addition to this one in Memphis off of Summer Ave. and White Station Rd., their oldest and fanciest operation is on the eastern outskirts of old downtown West Memphis, Arkansas.

The food is ok. I was just expecting a more authentic mexican restaurant. The cheese dip is free but its cold, its just the same stuff you buy at the grocery store. Staff was also kind of slow. The waitress only checked on us once the entire 2 hours we were there.

My family usually eat at the ponchos on summer ave. 2-4 times a months, I just got back from there tonight and well it was not pleasant. For starters I was unhappy to see the portion of cheese dip given was greatly reduced. The cup is so small you can not even fit an entire chip into it, you have to break it....

To make things worse, my personal entree was the Pizza. The shell was so burnt I barely ate a Quarter of it. I rarely complain about small things when I eat out, but this was bad. I told the waitress and she ran off. She came back a couple minutes later and offered me a TACO as a fix. I declined and she left. No apologies and actually charged me for the Pizza.

I payed anyways and went on my way. In return Ponchos has lost a regular customer...
