Pastrami N Friends, Commack, New York Restaurant Details

For a small deli with around ten tables in the back to be my daughter's(and my) fave, it says a lot. The food is outstanding every time we go, but what really sells this place is that you feel like family when you are there.

What can I say about Pastrami N Friends? Well it may be smaller compared to other kosher delis in Nassau County for instance but there’s nothing small about it! It’s not about chrome, glamor and the lighting that’s the rage. From the moment you walk in and take in that delicious smell of kosher deli you step into a restaurant reminiscent of another era. There’s a cozy feel that goes beyond Ernie and Ronnie’s greeting from behind the counter. It extends more importantly into the dining room to the delightful, engaging waitresses…wait staff is too impersonal for these caring, hardworking, highly efficient ever smiling women who for this single Mom of a sweet boy who lost both parents within recent years makes me feel like we are home…that we are family.

It may sound like it’s from a Cheer’s opening, but there’s something special about having the waitresses two by the name of Paula and one Diane greet you warmly by name and ask questions based on conversations from a few weeks ago! When they ask if you want “the usual” as it mysteriously and quickly arrives at your table. The warm greetings they take the time to give you no matter how busy they are and the continued attention you receive during the course of your meal and the food make eating at Pastrami N Friends a wonderful dining experience you won’t soon forget! How do they remember the half sour pickles you prefer, the extra napkins you will need for your son, the 7 Ups in a can all arriving quickly and efficiently you wonder?

Let’s talk about the food. It’s 100 % kosher, not kosher style as has become popular. I don’t always order the “usual” even if my son does. The tender corned beef is beyond delicious, it’s the best I’ve ever tasted, second to none! The chicken soup whether rice, noodle or matzo ball is delicious with bits of celery, carrots and chicken just like homemade without the fuss! From corned beef and pastrami sandwiches to the hot dogs and knishes everything is delicious including the pickles and cole slaw that is served at the beginning of the meal. Commack is lucky to have Pastrami N Friends in its midst. This single Mom and sweet boy are happy to go to a restaurant that is not only delicious but “where everyone knows your name”! Been going here since I was a child. My grandmother lived in Commack, and my parents and I would eat there often when we visited. I now attend dental school in Stony Brook and live about in hour from Pastrami and Friends, but make as many trips as I can to enjoy their amazing pastrami, corned beef, soups, breads and cole slaw. The people there are friendly. It's small, quaint, nothing fancy. But, it's a nice place to sit down and have an amazing sandwich. Highly recommended.

Love this place. Ernie and Ronnie are always smiling. The Pastrami is fantastic. Cole slaw is superb..sweet and crunchy!

Had a Wake to go to. Afterwards wanted lunch, Next door, (across the street) was a small shopping center with a choice of 4 different ethnic foods. We chose Pastrami & Friends. Quite a find! The best Matzo Ball soup I've ever had, a pastrami on rye 2nd to none! My wife had a brisket & pastrami, w/ coleslaw and russian dressing, which we brought home since she OD'ed on the soup. ( I had it for lunch the next day) We live in NYC and have eaten at Katz's, 2nd Ave., Sarges, etc. Pastrami & Friends Stands up to them all! The service was exceptional and the food worth the trip.
