Being Mexican American, from California, I walked in there with high expectations..... and was let down, worst food iv had, how dare they call what they make salsa, and the chorizo and agua de horchata were nasty. This place is an embarrassment to real baja grills. On top of everything, it is super over priced. Walmart premade Mexican food is a million times better.

Amazing as always. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, they added a Root Beer fountain....CLUTCH!!

I'm addicted to their fish tacos! I try to make my way to Norfolk (from Yorktown) at least once a month!

Today is July 18, 2013 and I had my first and last experience at Pelons's Baja Grill. I went there for lunch after googling fish tacos and this place had awesome reviews. I went to the ghent location and when I initially excited, the atmosphere was exactly as I expected it to be from the reviews I read but the fish tacos were a complete let down.

The fish was obviously some sort of previously frozen breaded fish. It reminded me strongly of the fish sticks my mom used to give me as a kid. besides that fact that I could tell they were using frozen fish sticks, when i dug underneath the cabbage I could see the tiny fish stick that had been cut up into four pieces and they were quite cold. The taco was loaded with cabbage to an overwhelming standpoint and saw a tiny bit of the cream and zesty sauces but because there was so much cabbage you couldn't even taste it. The white corn tortillas were horrible, they tasted very store bought and my tortillas obviously had not been even warmed. They were cold and cracking as if they had been stored in a refrigerator. I was utterly disappointed and I will not be going back for seconds.

This is my favorite place to eat in Hampton Roads, my wife and I moved closer to the oceanfront and now frequent Pelon's on a more regular basis. In the summer it's such a cool atmosphere with all the surfers coming in off the water.

It is the first place we recommend taking people when they are new to town. I'm a big fan of the fish tacos and the trio of guac, salsa and queso (it's so goood)! The only thing is when the Cross Fit moved in next door they take all the parking spots and now I don't go there as much.
