As a first-class destination, Terry Brennan's quietly gorgeous Lincoln Center–area French-Med goes the whole nine yards with a superb staff serving beautifully rendered cuisine, right up to the famously exquisite cheese-course finale; it's the lap of luxury for a grown-up clientele, but be ready to pay for it.

Picholine offers one of the most classic dining experiences to be found in the city, thanks to the watchful eye of Terrance Brennan. The cuisine is best described as French with Mediterranean influences, and a number of menu and course options makes it easy for guests to enjoy a meal of their liking. When I went with a few friends, we all opted for the five course tasting, which started off with a variety of amuses, including a play on the French Onion Soup and a sphere of fried goat cheese. The following courses were all delicious and well-executed, including the Cod Brandade, a play on the traditional "Fish and Chips"; the Agnolotti, two perfectly folded pieces of pasta placed in a dark, rich bolognese; as well as the impressive cheese cart, which is offered right before (and not instead of) the dessert course. Service was excellent as well, and although the interior can be a little subdued and formal, it makes for an excellent dining experience.

What else can I say? If you like French food, don't go anywhere else. We walked right in and were seated immediately. Lots of pro staff. Great wine. Not as expensive as I assumed.

I do not eat meat or salt and I had the best tasting meal I have ever had at Picholine.
The Captain was so attentive to my food restrictions and there was so much variety and choice in their special vegetarian menu. The best was the cauliflower main course (I wish I had the recipe). The staff is so caring and attentive but at the same time very French and formal and the restaurant is beautiful. I can't wait to return.

I am a native New Yorker and will keep to the directness of how we are known to be :)

Top Pick for Romantic Night, Elegant Dining, & Upscale Dining.

Food: Excellent! Taste and presentation is artful. I recommend the Monkfish that is prepared with a bacon vinaigrette!
Drinks: Excellent. Wine list is great!
Space: This is a very romantic and modern setting. You enter through velvet drapes into a elegant and romantic dining area. The bar is small, yet quaint and very conducive to mixing and mingling or enjoying your company.
Scene: Date night. Elegant. Upscale. Afterwork crowd. Singles scene.
Crowd: 30-50s.
Service: Extremely courteous & professional.

we absolutely loved the creative food, amazing service and fantastic cheese. They set the bar for fine dining in NYC.

The decor is charming and delightful.
