Rainwater's On Kettner, San Diego, California Restaurant Details

Food:

Unimpressive. The food is tasty (when they don't run out), but the service was awful both times I've eaten here. The wine list is exhaustive, yes, but also shamelessly overpriced. I did like the decor, though. To be blunt, there are much more worthwhile steakhouses in San Diego, and you're better off at all of them. Try Fleming's in La Jolla for amazing steak and wine, both at a better price, and without the hassle of dining downtown.

We just had dinner at Rainwater's and the experience was excellent and expensive. Even with the three course fixed price meals ($40 and $50) and one glass of house wine ($12), it was $140 with a $25 tip. But well worth the money! Service was excellent, attentive and unobtrusive. The filet was perfect and the prawns very tasty. The strawberry shortcake was done the right way, no sponge cake pretending to be shortcake. It is a place to go for a special event. We have NEVER had a bad experience at Rainwater's so I have no idea who is writing the bad reviews, a competitor perhaps?
