It was disappointing. All of the food was ok - no disasters - but none had much punch either. We felt we could have gotten similar, or even better, food at a upscale national chain restaurant - like the ones in the nearby Summit shopping center.

The deserts were a disaster. My Creme Brule was grainy and had no punch. It was as if they had not properly tempered the egg yoke in the cream. I could see "vanilla bean seed specks" but could not taste any vanilla.

Another member of our party had a desert that was chocolate moose on cake. The dish was completely frozen when it came to the table and could not even be cut with a knife. At a establishment of this level I would never expect to have dishes frozen and then thawed. In this case that was obviously what had occurred and they could not even get the thawing correct.

Over all the meal was, not a disaster but, a very disappointing experience. It is very unlikely I will be back - Birmingham has too many great alternatives for me to patronize this establishment.

We hosted a party of 16 at Satterfield's the night before we attended a Porsche Driving Event at Barber Motorsports in Birmingham. The food was exquisite, the service was impeccable, and the drinks were perfect and on time. We will book our reservations again there for the next event.

Very confused as to the allure of this place. I was expecting far better food when I went. I would say it is very average at best. I found the food to be very bland. The atmosphere was ok, but definitely not out of this world by any means.

We were able to make a reservation at Satterfield's the day-of -- this isn't always the case, especially on holidays, and reservations are recommended for any time. We sat at the chef's counter, by request -- it gives you a full view of the kitchen and all the staff as they prepare the evening's food.

It was a really wonderful experience. I went with a friend, and we each had a starter of mushroom ravioli and split a cheese plate. As entrees, we had perfectly prepared pork and duck with amazing complementary sides (mine, the duck, came with bourbon mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts). A foodie would be in heaven with this meal, and would definitely describe it better than I could -- but I can say that our meals were excellent and delicious and the flavors balanced perfectly. For dessert, I had a fruit plate, and my friend had a pecan tart with some absolutely wonderful ice cream on the side -- it was completely amazing. Anyone who geeks out about food would be able to talk about this meal forever, and I can't. But I can say it tasted really, really good (and you can't say that about food from more pretentious fancy restaurants).

A couple of reviewers mentioned that the portion sizes were small, but we found that we were really very full by the end of the meal. It seems like meals at Satterfield's are designed to be enjoyed in at least a couple of courses, and there's plenty of food if they're eaten this way.

We really loved sitting at the chef's counter. The staff was perfectly chatty when we wanted to talk, but they didn't bother us when we wanted privacy. They told us about the food and cooking methods and answered all of our questions about our meals, and they talked about which foods were locally sourced and where they came from, and they insisted that we give them feedback about our food and let them change anything that wasn't perfect (we didn't have to do that because it was already perfect).

I had a great time at Satterfield's, and I'd definitely go again.

Worth the 5 stars. The family that owns the spot are fantastic and it makes me happy to see the success they have found. Everything at Satterfields is fantastic, but be sure to hit up some desserts while you are there - you would be doing yourself a GREAT disservice if Becky has beignets on the menu and you pass them up. A definite must for any in town or from out of town.
