Balthazar's younger, "lower-priced" cousin, this "cool" LES bistro from Keith McNally is an ever-"packed" nexus for "solid" Eclectic fare delivered by a "well-meaning" team; even though the "noisy" room is "a place to be seen, not heard", it remains a perennial Downtown "favorite."

Really nice place. Good food. Quite noisy but easily solved if they just turn the volume down slightly.

You could call Schillers is the typical or quintessential NY restaurant/bar.

I wouldn't recommend coming here if you are looking to have a chat. Yes, the place has a very vibrant, friendly vibe, but it's loud. Don't expect to be able to hold a proper or deep conversation here.

The food is alright, but nothing to write home about. I like their mac and cheese and pulled chicken sandwich. They have some great drinks, namely cocktails for $12.
I noticed a lot of my friends from out-of-state complaining about the prices when I brought them here (they said it was too $$$) but that's normal or standard for NYC.

Oh, and btw, check out the bathrooms. You'll see why later...

As a fan of and frequent diner at Balthazar, I was psyched to try Schiller's. I finally went last August for a pre-birthday dinner. It was late-night, after a concert in the East Village. The restaurant is LOUD- don't expect to be able to hear the person sitting across from you. The bar is HAPPENING. I think that's really why people frequent this late night spot. Decor is typical bistro-in-NYC style with tiled walls, mirrors and wooden chairs. The food was pretty good. Calamari was fried nicely and the aioli was perfect. The grilled salmon was tasty but the piece of fish was on the smaller side. The deviled eggs were really good. One of their signature dishes, the steak frites was good, though not as good as Balthazar's. I wouldn't go back here for a special occasion, but I'd definitely return for a late night drink or snack.

Nice Drinks
They seemed to have a fairly extensive whiskey, bourbon list too.

Chill atmosphere to chat in

The bathroom was a bit unusual - at first you think you're going into a gendered restroom, but then you end up in a common washroom, then you go through another set of doors to the actual restroom.

The noisest restaurant you will ever go to. Ever. Anywhere. But the food is typically great as it is a McNally restaurant. Service is great considering how chaotic the scene is here. Beautiful and clean and has that trademark hip vibe. Just Noisy. don't expect a romantic quiet dinner here.
