Great atmosphere. Food is hit or miss, depends on the day and the cook. Great watering hole!

Always very good food, and good service. Love their tables on the water, and lots of drink specials. I would enjoy living in Hawaii Kai a lot less if there were no Shack locally. Can be a bit raucaus friday and saturday night, but that is because it is a popular spot for having fun.

The comment below which said it's good enough when you got nothing else is spot on. Hawaii Kai has almost no choice on quality food so sometimes you're stuck going here. when you just want a burger, beer, and to chill outside. No complaints on the burgers and the price is right but the booze is overpriced, the service is atrocious (slow, they ignore you, and often mess the order up), and the setup not very inviting. It's basically worst of three worlds (family restaurant, sports bar, suburban warrior bar) but what can you? No comment on the nightlife aspect of The Shack, went their once late and it was closing and a sausage fest.
