This place is always great! You have to try the Mountain root salad and the Okonomi Yaki!

If you are looking for authentic Japanese or a place that isn't just sushi, this is it!

Buuuuuuusy on the weekends. However, if you happen to need to go shopping, H Mart is right there. Then again, if you happen to be starving, you can also eat in the H Mart food court.

Annnnyway, Shoya. We came here on a Friday night at 8 and it was packed. We sat down around 8:45 and ordered our food, which came out of the kitchen as it finished. Most of the orders are tapas sized, save for the entree items. They do your standard sushi and sashimi, but I'd skip the rolls. While good, it's a waste of a trip here for things you can't really get elsewhere.

This time around I got the Tan tan ramen. This was semi-spicy ground pork in a chicken broth with all the normal ramen fixings. Super good and for $10.5, plenty filling. I'd recommend getting an appetizer or other small course to go with it and you'll leave plenty full.

Shoya Izakaya, surmisable from its name, is a true authentic Japanese restaurant serving Authentic cuisine in bustling classic setting. Anything from unagi-don, fresh sashimi, all types of true ramen, to my personal delight, the okonomiyaki make their way from the kitchen and sushi bar to guests mouths.

Footnote: I have never seen this place not busy with a wait time so calling ahead to reserve is for the best.

Some dishes are good I believe but most of them are pricy and small portion. What surprised me was that dishes don't come with rice. I ordered a grilled salmon, and shockingly it just came by itself, I stunned for a moment believing these kind of dishes should come with rice,, like what they want me to do with just a piece of grilled salmon? This is not an appetizer! Can't believe they charge for rice. I don't think I wanna come back here again.

My wife and I are frequent customers as the food is generally good. I cant say the same for the service last night. I sat 30 minutes waiting for my food as my wife's food arrived after 10 minutes. I had to use the bell twice to ask where my food was. I only received confused looks on the servers faces.
The beef salad was supposed to be medium rare. It looked like it was lightly charred and absolutely raw inside with the appearance that dogs had chewed it off of a piece of raw steak, then unceremoniously piled atop some baby greens with the dressing sitting on the bottom of the dish.
The way they can improve the customer experience is to assign stations to the servers. We had no less than 3 coming to our table. It appeared to be total confusion.
If there is a dining room manager, then this is a good learning opportunity.
