So I drive by the Zona Rosa location frequently during my treks to the airport. I've been looking to try Smokehouse for some time. I stopped in during the holidays and the atmosphere was fine but I was most delighted to see an actual smoker in the kitchen (open for viewing). We were pleasantly greeted and seated next to two ladies that were having burnt end sandwiches called super crispy. I took a line straight from When Harry Met Sally and said, I will have what she's having. The sandwich comes with friends and pit beans. The pit beans were tasty but lacked the hint of bbq sauces and smoky flavor in which I have become accustomed. I bit into a French fry and it was good enough and the to the guest of honor....my sandwich. I bit into this beautiful specimen of burnt ends chopped and placed atop a sub-like piece of bread and lightly adorned with BBQ sauce. The texture was perfect but was lacking kick from the sauce and smoky flavor from the meat. Had I been duped by smokehouse? It was like the hot woman on Tinder that you finally meet and the beauty that made you swipe right was the result of fancy filters on the camera. This place is solid and I will return to try the ribs in hopes that the smoky flavor that was missing in the super crispy might be there. Gates still remains tops in BBQ with Jack Stack and LCs and Joes of Kansas City (Oklahoma Joes) completing my top 4. If you're hungry and one of those places isn't around try Smokehouse.

I've only been here three times, but those three times span about 8 years of visiting friends and relatives in KCMO. It's a very upscale setting which is unusual for BBQ, but it doesn't affect the taste one bit. From burnt ends and cheesy corn, to deep fried cauliflower, I've always been pleased.
As for the atmosphere, it's OK to eat BBQ with a fork on occasion. LOL

The worst....the worst 85 bucks I have spent in my life....we sat and the delicious beef ribs I was thinking of dissipated in thin air when they come back with all the ribs (burned) in less than five minutes after placing the order.
I should of have known, I got food poisoning about two hours later may be less, I kept going to the bathroom all night long.
I am of Latino descendance and my girlfriend Caucasian, we ordered exactly the same plate trimmings and all including the iced tea, I was the only one that got sick...I bet at the kitchen tamper with my food.
Same plate, same drink, same trimmings but I only got poisoning, which is alright.
Be careful Hispanic people there are some coward and racist people in this place kitchen trying to get you sick.
They did it to me...but that kind of evil stuff will come back to them three times worst....it is called Karma.

Honestly, the worst burnt ends I've ever had. They were clearly microwaved considering they burned the top of my mouth so badly that I had a blister there about 5 minutes after I left. Seriously, how can you microwave the meat and call yourself BBQ. Terrible. Spend the extra time to just go to Joe's.

I was in Topeka on business, traveling back home to Chicago and thought I would stop in and try some KC BBQ. I had the Baby Back Rib platter with Burnt Ends, Sweet Potato Fries and BBQ Beans. I also started with their Smoked BBQ wings. I thought everything was done nicely, the ribs were very meaty, and tender, great smoke flavor. The burnt ends were new to me, I enjoyed them very much, very tender, and juicy, which was surprising since they were called "burnt ends" you'd think they would have been dry. The wings were tasty, juicy, nice smoke flavor; the only thing that would have made them better is if there was a second more spicier BBQ to choose for them. If there is, it wasn't made apparent at time of ordering. I suggest that if you decide to go with this platter, skip the appetizer, to my heart's dismay, I left a lot of food on my plate...
