"To-die-for" mofongo and pernil get washed down with "fruity vacation drinks" at this "clubby" Sutton Place Puerto Rican, where "loud Latin music" booms and someone's always "celebrating something"; the "enormous" repasts are "surprisingly affordable", but "bring your earplugs."

Loved the food and the coconut sangria was really good! Definitely will go back! The club portion is in the front of the restaurant, the music was not really overbearing, there was a good balance.

Very classy latin restaurant, The food is really good and the portions are the right size if you are not super hungry. They have nice cocktails and drinks specials. The bartenders are nice and fast

This is not a 'as close as you can get' restaurant. This is the real deal. 100% puertorican comfort food. Everything is on point here. The arroz con gandules, the carne frita, the alcapurrias. You would think that you're eating at a high end restaurant in Old San Juan. You would never know by eating the food alone. The prices are NYC, of course, but totally worth it.

Docked a star because the service was initially slow. Otherwise good choice.

Lapin and I came here for dinner one night. He has been wanting to try this restaurant for ages, so we decided to give it a go. We didn't have a reservation but we didn't have to wait long to get a table. The restaurant wasn't very crowded. There was an company event taken place which was very loud, distracting and congested the bar and entrance area. I feel like they should have a private party room as it took away from the ambiance of the restaurant.

The waiter wasn't very friendly. When we asked if we can place an order for the four appetizers first while we still were deciding on an entree but he didn't want do a split order entree. He claimed that they will be busy later but the restaurant remained empty 50% of the time. He also didn't really check up on us after we ordered. Lapin ordered the potato puffs with beef which were not that great. The shrimp and chicken empanadas were good but I like the shrimp empanada better. The tostones with sauteed shrimp were okay. They were a weird tasting. We split an order of vegetarian paella, which was okay. It had way too much veggies for my liking. Overall, the food was okay nothing great. Even Lapin said his mom could make better, although he does say that quite often.

The music was really loud and obnoxious. Which is probably why Lapin complained his head hurts and he wanted to cut dinner short. I also thought it was weird that there was a woman in the bathroom who spent most of the time on the phone and trying to pushing trinkets. A lot of people were hosting their birthday party celebrations here as well. They have a $3 cake cutting surcharge and they offer half price on some of their wine, which is probably why people were hosting birthday parties here. For mediocre food and inattentive service, I don't feel like they should have charged the "automatic" 20% tip.
