Sol Y Luna, Birmingham, Alabama Restaurant Details

I've been to Sol Y Luna many times over the past several years. My experiences really range from great to so so, but the past few times I have been the service has been awful. The last time I went I called ahead to see if there was a wait and the hostess said there wasn't and when I arrived at 6:00 the restaurant was half empty. I was then told it would be an hour and a half wait. I asked about the empty tables and they replied that the tables were for their 7:30 reservations. Thats an hour and a half... On my way out the manager asked me to make reservations for the next day and come back. A little bit ridiculous and a big waste of my time.

I've had nearly everything on their menu. Their margaritas are excellent compared to almost any restaurant in Birmingham. Most food items are very good, if not excellent, but the issue with the food is the time that it takes to get to you. More often than not half of the food will be cold by the time it gets to you since they appear to prepare everything separately.

Again, excellent food but poor execution on the wait staff. At this point I don't think this place is where you should risk spending your money. Maybe at some point in the future when the management team and staff changes this place will be all that it was.

I use to love Sol y Luna, but it's really gone downhill in the last year or so. The food isn't like it use to be, but more importantly, the service is so disappointing. When we went recently, both the hostess and the bartender were very inept. It's such a shame what this restaurant has become.

Service was terrible. Spoiled my evening! Alex, the manager, has no place in this business.. I hope the owners look into it. Other reviews confirm. Food was just ok....

Food was incredible. Ambience was well balanced and our server, Lindsay, was great. Will visit again soon. I am adding this as one of my new favorites.

Gourmet Mexican. The dishes are more tapas style. The dishes are typically good and unique.
