What a disappointing experience! Saturday, October 31, 2015 was my friend's birthday. Seven of us arrived at 7pm and were seated, three couples and another good friend. By the time our order was taken (8pm), they were out of their signature dish which was the purpose for the visit. The service was without question the worst I've had in quite some time. As for the food? Any kitchen that can't cook a 8oz ground steak (Just a big BURGER!!) is a failure, a complete failure. There are very few ways to steam lobster, so it follows that there are very few ways to mess it up. Lucky us, they found one. When I asked for the recipe for the BROWN potatoes, the manager actually admitted to the table that the mashed potatoes that I had been served had been "sitting around since around four o'clock". He assured me that "they have been stirred to stay fresh". When the look of anger hit my face, the question was asked why he had served me inedible food that was far beyond it's expiration for service. It was obvious that he was totally unaware what the rules for safe food handling actually are. No effort was made to resolve the BROWN potato issue. I would only have expected this quality of food from a high school cafeteria or a hospital tray. There are many other places to eat in Montgomery that treat same sex couples the same as any other couple, but I'm sure it wasn't that.

Sommer's place has great service, atmosphere, and food. The prime rib was excellent. Very reasonably priced!

First time going and will probably be our last. The food was bland and dry. The service was slow. I ordered the Grouper and it didn't look or taste like Grouper. Not going back.

Terrible food, and mediocre service. After having just ate there again for the second time getting an experience like this, I felt compelled to write a review. Either the kitchen doesn't listen to the waiters, or the waiters aren't telling the kitchen anything, and the customer suffers for it. My dad's "medium rare" prime rib was so incredibly rare, it was shocking a restaurant served it. My brother's dish was incredibly watery and tasted awful, partially because everything on it was clearly frozen. My "chicken superb" was anything but - incredibly bland because the chicken wasn't seasoned at all, and the sauteed mushrooms were covered in a shocking amount of cheese. No menu description would prepare you. An in-law requested a "lightly, lightly blackened tilapia" ( her emphasis, not mine), and it was covered in a stunning amount of blackening seasoning. Another in-law for the prime rib raw and cold. The list goes on. Additionally, the waiter was clearly too inexperienced to do this job. He literally threw straws at almost everyone at the table in lieu of placing them. I am 100% serious. Sommer's has no quality control whatsoever, the cooking staff has not got the talent to execute that menu, and the wait staff is in dire need of professionalism. Avoid at all costs. There are way better restaurants in the same price range in the area.

Sommer's Place is, hands-down, the best full-service, casual restaurant in Montgomery. The food is excellent, the service is friendly and efficient, and the setting is enjoyable. Steve makes the best Prime Rib in town, the seafood meals are fresh and tasty - particularly the trout - and the steaks are of high quality. The crab claws make a great appetizer. My wife, Barbara, and I have been eating there roughly once a week since it opened over twenty years ago, and we can count on one hand the the number of times we've had a problem. And on these very few occasions, things were quickly fixed. If you haven't tried it yet, you're missing a real treat.
