Stroud's, Kansas City, Missouri, American Restaurant Details

Food:

I visited Stroud's in the summer of '15. Having been there many years ago and enjoying the food immensely, I was sorely disappointed.

We were sat in the slanted dining room (which was actually pretty cool), and were immediately greeted by the smell of what I can only describe as sewage, bacterial vaginosis and cinnamon. Figuring I would adapt to the horrendous smell, I elected to stay.

Once partially acclimated to the smell, I dug in to my chicken disappointment, err, dinner, and was completely underwhelmed by the lack of seasoning. It was juicy, but flavorless. The fries were good.

Overall I don't think I would visit this location again, mostly due to the environmental concerns. I would consider one of their other locations, just as a correlation study.

I'm not a fried chicken lover but I love coming here. I rarely have the fried chicken, but it's so good when I do...and I don't even like fried chicken! :) The sides are HUGE ,and the cinnamon rolls amazing.

Great place to take family to for some comfort food. Cinnamon rolls and fried chicken are A+ quality. Servers are always friendly. Sometimes the servers sing along with the piano player in-between picking up orders.

We had a GREAT visit. Atmosphere was tremendous (the restaurant is in a house that was built in 1829), service was very friendly, cinnamon rolls were incredible, the chicken was good. To be clear, the chicken was not the best in the country as the dated articles on the walls from People Magazine and USA Today suggested, but it was good with an excellent crisp and very juicy (just could use more flavor) . But I give 4 stars because the overall experience was great- esp w the quirky, slanted, old house full of charm and the dreamy cinnamon rolls. Definitely worth a visit

Probably the best fried chicken I have ever had.
We're from the Illinois side of St. Louis and have a couple of outstanding fried chicken restaurants. Strouds was better. The service was very good and the server very friendly. When returning to KC, we wI'll return. Go Cards!
