I never knew about this German restaurant until my friend dragged me here. It's located in a gentrified neighborhood surrounded by other eateries. Suppenküche literally translates to "soup kitchen". There is nothing soup kitchen about this restaurant because the meals are around $20ish; although, you do share tables. For those less adventurous and who don't want to share a table with complete strangers you can sit at the bar.

I enjoyed my meal - I had the breaded pork loin with potatoes and green salad (a decent tasting marinated lettuce head). I also enjoyed my drink: sparkling apple-flavored water.

I would have given this place five stars, but when my friend went to the restroom he saw Hispanic men working in the kitchen. I was rather disappointed because I wanted an authentic German dining experience. My opinion is that it wasn't authentic. His opinion was that it was an authentic German experience (he's lived in Germany) and it doesn't matter who cooked the food. I guess it just depends . . .

Good but, hella busy - Hampton E.G

She's the person I went there with. The wait was about and hour but, it was worth it cause we both were not starving.

The haring appetizer was the best.
The meatloaf was good too but, it was nothing special.

OF COURSE, the beer is great!

The only thing I didn't like, is that because it's so busy you have to sit with another group of people. At least we did. Had to watch my language cause the kids! But it's not like I talk like a pirate or something.

Suppenkuche is authentic as it gets. The restaurant looks somewhat like a beer hall and instantly feels like you're actually in Germany, or some Eastern European country. The food is well portioned and tasty - I had a really delicious pasta and sausage dish.

The beer of course is not to be missed, and is a great place to catch up with a good friend and some exquisite beer. If you're thirsty, order a boot!

"From the pretzel to the schnitzel", this Hayes Valley hofbräuhaus serves "large portions" of some of the "the best German food around" backed by an "incredible beer selection", all "excellently priced"; "shoulder-to-shoulder crowds" make it "noisy as a rock concert" and sometimes "hard to get good service", but "das Boot" (a glass boot full of brew) makes fans say "sehr gut!"
