Not only Chinese but also excellent Vietnamese fare is dished at this delicious duo (Chinatown and Briargrove) that has such a huge menu it feels like one could eat here daily for a year and never have the same thing twice; sure, there's not much in the way of decor or atmosphere, but the settings are functional and both locales sport fairly late hours.

It used to be a hot spot for the night owls, but has since changed their hours. We normally get wonton egg noodle soup and a turnip cake. They are very consistent and service is fast.

Excellent food with a bit of culture shock

First of all, you come here for the food--it's the best and freshest in Texas, period. If you're used to Western restaurant service, you will be in for a bit of culture shock. The service here is no nonsense. They may place your beverage on the other side of the table rather than in front of you. They may similarly drop your meal off rather bruskly as if it's a driveby event. Your wait staff may know limited English. The wait staff are not used to being thanked for their service or attentiveness (it's not the Asian way), but I say 'thank you ' anyway.

Back to the food. The best way to order is family style--order a few dishes for the table and share. The food comes out from the kitchen in the order that it is ready, as it is ready (not as you may be used to in a Western culture restaurant). Likewise, there is no such thing as courses in the Asian culture so your 'appetizer ' may not be the first item delivered to your table (once again, first prepared, first out). The menu selection is diverse and voluminous.

Ambiance is clean, bright and uppity-free. It may smell a bit fishy, but they serve FRESH still alive before cooked seafood-shouldn't that be reassuring? It can get a bit noisy. The clientele is predominantly Asian which I figure is a good indicator of authenticity.

If what you have come to know as "Chinese" food is that of Panda Express and the corner greasy take out joint, you won't find that here. This is the real stuff not the over sauced, greasy, pan-fried nonsense you have come to learn as "Chinese" food.

Despite the quirks, I have been coming to this location for 13 years (the Westheimer location is Westernized). Sinh Sinh is also a good option for a Westernized experience.

It's truly about the food here.

Been going here as a kid. This is my parents favorite place. You'll never have a bad meal or service here.

Eh I wasn't so impressed. Food was ok. Prices could have been better. I would have enjoyed better service as well. Go to Sinh Sinh instead.
