Thaiphoon, Washington, District of Columbia, Thai Restaurant Details

Food:

Some food here is good stuff, some food (like noodles for example) is so so.
REALLY great thing about Thaiphoon: this place is much better than totally awful other mid class restaurants around DuPont .
Atmosphere is nice, service is nice which is SO RARE for a mid class/mid rate eatery in central DC.
Just do not order noodles here and you'll have good time!

I don't understand all of these very good reviews. My party of four were all fairly unsatisfied by the curry here. The eggplant was undercooked, the curry was watery/sugary, and the tofu was spongy. I know that you have to be crazy to order cocktails at a Thai place like this, but DON'T! The drinks were absolutely terrible and the cocktail menu is a total lie. Each of us got a different tropical cocktail from the menu, which claimed they all had various fresh fruit juices and nice liquor. All four were pretty transparently Kool-Aid type mixes with cheap liquor. It was really obvious, and we paid like $12 for each one. Two of my friends couldn't even finish theirs because it was clearly just blue powder stirred into tequila. The decor is weird and the menus are laminated and trashy. Go elsewhere for Thai, this is some of the worst in DC.

I travel all over the US and this is THE BEST Asian cuisine you'll ever have. My son, who is a self proclaimed "curry coinsurer" dreams of coming back to Thaiphoon for our annual D.C. visit. The only disappointment he has is that there is not one in South Florida!
