The Fiction Kitchen, Raleigh, North Carolina, Vegan-friendly Restaurant Details

Food:

We had high hopes for The Fiction Kitchen since it was our first restaurant to try in Raleigh -- from the moment the hostess rudely wrote our name down to seating us in the worst spot by the kitchen our experience continued to go downhill. When our appetizer never arrived and the server told us, " I just work here" to the salt infested vegetables and overall "one-note" vegan food I would never recommend this place to anyone. We've been vegans for a while and have lived in many places. It's a shame because vegan food can be delicious and attractive.

Food:

A hugely disappointing over-hyped neighborhood restaurant featuring all the baggage of vegan food but without any of the flavor. Curry was a one-note, overpowering bowl of indistinguishable vegetables and salt, while the side of greens was mushy and bland. The one common ingredient all the dishes shared was too much salt while the cook/chef has no presentational skills at all. The hipster service leans towards unprofessional and disinterested, and when our appetizers failed to appear our server said he "just worked here" and had no idea where they were. The lines out of the door will no doubt mean nothing will change but vegan food can be so much more than this.

Amazing food and great service! I've been vegan for about seven years and Fiction Kitchen has quickly become my favorite local spot for grub. The Eastern BBQ and chicken and waffles are my go-to selections. I just wish there was more space in the dining area so wait times would go down.

I went with 4 friends, we shared everything we got, and there was not one thing that we got that wasn't delicious. We also got the root vegetable chips for an appetizer and the chocolate ganache for dessert. All of it was unbelievable. The service was great as well.

The overall food and experience was great! So creative and fresh! Would come back again and again.
