The Nitty Gritty, Madison, Wisconsin Restaurant Details

Overrated. Great for birthday because of free drinks. Otherwise food isn't good and service at bar is average if not slow

For better or worse, this is the birthday bar in Madison. The food is definitely not bad, nothing here will cause a craving to come back. The burgers are nothing special - average at best.
I would say there weekend brunch is better than expected, I especially liked the brunchzilla Bloody Mary

Never a bad time at the Gritty. Good food reasonably priced with cheery service. The black bean burger is quite tasty. Oh, and free beer on your birthday!

The burgers here are great and this is the place to go for your birthday as the mugs are nice touch. Unfortunately the Nitty is almost always busy and the college student population (being just off the UW Campus) is generally steady to heavy.

This is a nice place to go for your birthday. They have ok food and a lot to offer. They also offer good drink specials. Late in the night it gets very crowded with college students.
